Michael Ellenwood Lowe
September 23, 1947 - April 17, 2021

Journalist, Writer, Activist, Warrior for the working class, but most of all much-loved husband, father, brother, stepdad, grandpa, and poppa Mick to his family, passed away peacefully in his home at Pioneer Manor. Mick is survived by his wife Anita (Beaudry), daughters Julia (Jason Ozubko), Melanie (Jeremy Knight), stepson Nick Yawney and stepdaughter Meg Yawney (Chris Cornell). Grandpa to Jonas, and Poppa Mick to Clara. Fondly remembered by the girls' mom, Ruth Reyno. Predeceased by his father Jack and his mother Grace (Ellenwood), Mick is survived by his brother Doug (Lorna May) and their family.

Mick came from a small family but upon marrying into the Beaudry clan he was absorbed into our family and became Uncle Mick to more than 30. His last 10 years were lived at Pioneer Manor and we would like to express our thanks and appreciation to all within those walls. He loved living there, he felt like "King of the Castle" when he roamed those halls at night. Thank you to staff of Trillium wing, you are stellar. Each and every one of you are a shining example of true dedication and caring.

To Sherry, Carol, MJ, Terry, and ANYONE who walked into Mick's room, thank you. To Laura...there are no words. To Dr. Jake Holub, Mick loved his conversations with you (Go Huskers), a heartfelt thank you. A special thank you to Brian Labelle. Your friendship and love for Mick, your kindness and compassion is so appreciated.

As per Mick's wishes, there will be no visitation. A gathering of Mick's family and friends will be determined post COVID. In Mick's memory donations can be made to the Pioneer Manor Residents' Council or the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home,

I met Mick in 2017 when I asked him to sign a book he had written some years before (Conspiracy of Brothers). He openly invited me to Pioneer Manor and he graciously shared some additional stories in the writing of the book. He was so welcoming and you could tell he was a fellow with a million stories. A 5 minute signing in his room at Pioneer Manor became 90 minutes of time I will treasure for the rest of the my life. Oh Yes - Conspiracy of Brothers is a great read! RIP Mick!

Mick Lowe was a wonderful man, one of a kind. He was a strong contributor to the early development of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), particularly NOSM Communications. In 2002, he left his journalist/columnist role to move to "the dark side" and become NOSM's first Communications Officer. He set the tone for NOSM Communications including with media releases, internally with Northern Passages Newsletter, and externally with the NOSM Dean's Column. Mick maintained his passionate commitment to NOSM until the day he died. He will be greatly missed.
