Palmerina Francesca Cimino
The light of her family’s life, Francesca was born April 10th, 1949 in Nocelletta Gizzeria, Calabria, Italy, to parents Gennaro and Carmela Folino (both predeceased). Francesca was a devoted wife and mother and she took great pride in being the homemaker for her family. In 1964 she married the love of her life, Giuseppe. Together they decided to immigrate to Canada with their first-born son in order to provide a better life for their family. Upon her arrival to Canada, Francesca worked at Eaton’s as a cleaner for a short period of time. As her family continued to grow, Francesca decided to devote her time and energy at home nurturing her children.
In 1975, the family mourned the loss of their dear son Frankie. Francesca put her heart and soul into her knitting and crocheting. Many babies in Sudbury and around the world were gifted her beautiful blankets. She even ensured that her fur grandchildren had blankets. Francesca absolutely loved to cook for her family and friends. Her table was always full of food and surrounded by family and friends, and that’s exactly how she wanted it. Francesca would have a delicious 10 course meal ready in a moment’s notice. No one left Nonna’s house with an empty belly; she touched the hearts of everyone that knew her and became everyone’s Nonna. Francesca had many dear friends that frequently visited her. She could often be found sharing an espresso and her famous baking with Marion, Jeanette, Cathy, Connie and many more. Francesca fought and overcame many struggles in life, which made her the strong woman she was. She never complained and always lit up the room with her beautiful warm smile. Beloved wife of Giuseppe Cimino predeceased 2014. Francesca’s children were her reason for living and she was extremely proud of all their accomplishments. She leaves behind her children, Guerino (Maria), Johnny (Sheila), Frankie (predeceased) and Maria (Pietro Mastroianni). Francesca’s grandchildren were her pride and joy and her legacy will continue to shine through them, Devin (Julie), Alex, Giovanni, Sydney, Julia, Stefano and her great grandchild Zack. She also leaves behind her sisters and brother, Giovanna (Francesco), Giuseppe (Giovanna), from Italy and Maria (Santo) from Sudbury. Francesca loved her siblings and was very grateful for all the support and love that her sister Maria gave her and was always by her side. Also mourning her loss are her sisters and brothers in law, Giovanna (Nicola), Rosina (Francois), Giovanni (Sabrina) and predeceased by Rachela (Tony). Francesca leaves behind many nieces and nephews in Sudbury, Toronto, Italy, New Brunswick and Australia. Fondly remembered by special friends Pasquale and Cathy Folino, Luigi and Concetta Buttarella, Anita Boyle, Frank and Wanda Nocita, Alberto and Maria Isabella and many more. The family would like to thank all of their family and friends for the outpouring of love and generosity they have shown during this difficult time.
