Obituary

Palmerina Francesca Cimino
The light of her family’s life, Francesca was born April 10th, 1949 in Nocelletta Gizzeria, Calabria, Italy, to parents Gennaro and Carmela Folino (both predeceased). Francesca was a devoted wife and mother and she took great pride in being the homemaker for her family. In 1964 she married the love of her life, Giuseppe. Together they decided to immigrate to Canada with their first-born son in order to provide a better life for their family. Upon her arrival to Canada, Francesca worked at Eaton’s as a cleaner for a short period of time. As her family continued to grow, Francesca decided to devote her time and energy at home nurturing her children.
In 1975, the family mourned the loss of their dear son Frankie. Francesca put her heart and soul into her knitting and crocheting. Many babies in Sudbury and around the world were gifted her beautiful blankets. She even ensured that her fur grandchildren had blankets. Francesca absolutely loved to cook for her family and friends. Her table was always full of food and surrounded by family and friends, and that’s exactly how she wanted it. Francesca would have a delicious 10 course meal ready in a moment’s notice. No one left Nonna’s house with an empty belly; she touched the hearts of everyone that knew her and became everyone’s Nonna. Francesca had many dear friends that frequently visited her. She could often be found sharing an espresso and her famous baking with Marion, Jeanette, Cathy, Connie and many more. Francesca fought and overcame many struggles in life, which made her the strong woman she was. She never complained and always lit up the room with her beautiful warm smile. Beloved wife of Giuseppe Cimino predeceased 2014. Francesca’s children were her reason for living and she was extremely proud of all their accomplishments. She leaves behind her children, Guerino (Maria), Johnny (Sheila), Frankie (predeceased) and Maria (Pietro Mastroianni). Francesca’s grandchildren were her pride and joy and her legacy will continue to shine through them, Devin (Julie), Alex, Giovanni, Sydney, Julia, Stefano and her great grandchild Zack. She also leaves behind her sisters and brother, Giovanna (Francesco), Giuseppe (Giovanna), from Italy and Maria (Santo) from Sudbury. Francesca loved her siblings and was very grateful for all the support and love that her sister Maria gave her and was always by her side. Also mourning her loss are her sisters and brothers in law, Giovanna (Nicola), Rosina (Francois), Giovanni (Sabrina) and predeceased by Rachela (Tony). Francesca leaves behind many nieces and nephews in Sudbury, Toronto, Italy, New Brunswick and Australia. Fondly remembered by special friends Pasquale and Cathy Folino, Luigi and Concetta Buttarella, Anita Boyle, Frank and Wanda Nocita, Alberto and Maria Isabella and many more. The family would like to thank all of their family and friends for the outpouring of love and generosity they have shown during this difficult time.
“I Nonni ti vedono crescere, sapendo che ti lasceranno prima degli altri. Forse e per questo che ti amano piu di tutti.” Your grandparents will watch you grow knowing that they will leave you before others….maybe that’s why they love you the most. Resting at Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street. (Family may call 2-5; 7-9pm Friday, March 12th, prayers at 3pm Friday). Due to COVID-19 directives safety protocols will be in place. From Ernie Corpuz
To John, Guerino, Maria and their families, I want to express my deepest sorrow for the loss of your mother, grandmother, mother-in-law. I knew John since I was 5...We grew up together, went to all the same schools.. I was always at his house. “MOM” ( as I called her) , accepted me and cared for me the moment we met...aside from just feeding me her amazing Italian dishes that no one has ever come close to matching , she was also like a second mother to me in that she always gave me advice about life, always showed encouragement to a young fatherless kid who lacked confidence and she always taught me right from wrong.
Being at the Cimino home so often, I witnessed the love she had for her wonderful husband Joe and her three kids..I watched them laugh, tease each other, yell at each other, hug each other. I talked to mom a lot on the phone and we talked about John, Guerino, Maria, their kids, their accomplishments, how proud she was of every one of them, about Joe and their life together, life in Sudbury in the very beginning, her brother back home, her recipes and garden, about my mom, about Frankie, so many things.
I’m writing this crying right now because I loved her very much and I feel heartbroken that I couldn’t see her.
I was raised by many women in my life and Francis was literally the only one left so I feel very empty now.
Rest In Peace “mom”...I will miss you ❤️

Our prayers and condolences go out to the whole family. Your mom was probably one of the nicest ladies around. She was always happy and extra-friendly whenever she would see me, no matter how much time had passed in between. Seeing her share espresso, crostoli, sponge cake and lupini with my Nonna was frequent memory of growing up and visiting my nonni. She will be deeply missed. Love, Vittorio Folino and family.

To Guerino, Maria, John, Will always cherish my visits to your moms home and the time I've spent with her. She was a beautiful person, always had a warm embrace and loved the company of friends! I'm grateful for her love towards my family. I loved how she enjoyed Hugo's company and always sent him off with homemade cookies and tomatoes from her garden. It was so cute to see. Always thinking of her and her warm spirit! Love you Frances! Zuzu.
