In loving memory of Diana E. Johnston (nee Walberg) at 87 year. She lost her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on Friday, April 2, 2021. Mom was able to leave on her own terms – at home, in no pain surrounded by people who cared. Diana was born in Carlyle, Saskatchewan on November 19, 1933. She is predeceased by her parents Oscar and Evelyn Walberg and her oldest sister Aline “Juanita” Kline. Predeceased by her husband Glen Johnston in 2017, whom she married in 1958. She is survived by her four children Brad of Brampton, Craig of Wahnapitae, Wendy of Vancouver, B.C. and Tracy of Sudbury. Brad and Tracy would like to thank the nurses and PSW’s from Bayshore Home Health, Jeannine and Karen from Comfort Keepers, the PSW’s from Home Instead Senior’s Care and the Shared Care Team form the Maison McCulloch Hospice for making mom comfortable during her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made by cheque or online to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Blue Door Club Soup Kitchen or to a charity of your choice. Interment of Diana’s ashes will take place at the Park Lawn Cemetery at a later date. There will be no funeral visitation or service. For donations or messages of condolence,

Diana's colleagues at RTO/ERO (Retired Teachers of Ontario/Les enseignants(es)retraités de l'Ontario)send their condolences. We know that your best comfort will come from the telling of her life's stories by those who knew the joy of her presence in their lives, including her students and staff members. As a "teen", Diana, who attended Sudbury High School, was an enthusiastic Girl Guide. She became a "Packee" to a group of Brownies who met at the Gatchell Public School in the mid fifties. She soon became an assistant Towny Owl and finally a "Brown Owl" . After attending Teacher's College in North Bay for a year, she taught in Oakville but soon returned to McKim Township to teach. For a number of years she was an "at home" mother. She returned to teaching as an occasional supply teacher in the early seventies, until 1991 when she retired, shortly after her husband's retirement from INCO.
Diana had been involved as a literacy volunteer - doing "one on one" language work. She also volunteered for the Navy League Cadets and later with the Air Cadets.
Diane really enjoyed making quilts and for some years belonged to the Quilting and Stitchery Group in Sudbury.
She loved to read - but most of all she loved to shop!
