The family announces with great sorrow the sudden passing of our beloved Enzo Massimiliano, 79 years, on Thursday, January 7, at Health Sciences North. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.
Born in Laurignano, Calabria, Italy, Enzo was the proud son of the late Nicola and Elvira (Acri) Massimiliano. He immigrated to Canada with his mother and his dear sisters Angela Scola (Luciano, predeceased) and Maria Bozzo (Rocco) to join his father in Sudbury. Enzo graduated from the Haileybury School of Mines and worked in the engineering department at Inco, until his retirement in 1999.
Sudbury is where he met the light of his life, Denise (nee Castellan). Their first date was at a Saint Anthony’s Church Valentine’s dance, and this marked the beginning of their 60 year love story. They married a few years later, and he became the cherished son in law of the late Bruno and Caterina Castellan.
He was a caring and devoted husband to Denise and a doting dad to Christine and Cynthia and son-in-law Jason Matte. He was also a kind Zio to his nieces and nephews, a caring cousin and an unforgettable friend to many. Enzo shared with all of us his love of life, music and vino. He loved spending “quality time” with his family and friends, laughing along with Seinfeld, watching and playing tennis, going to the Casino, and drinking the occasional “digestivo”.
Enzo was an active member of the Caruso Club where he enjoyed dancing and socializing. He took pleasure in entertaining and playing his accordion at many events with the Silver Stars band. He also looked forward to catching up with friends after mass at Saint Anthony’s Church, where he was a lifelong parishioner and enjoyed Father Larry’s jokes.
Enzo will be remembered for being a loveable man, with a kind smile, infectious laugh, a great sense of humour, and a generous nature. As one his favourite songs says, “ti voglio bene assai”, Enzo always wanted the best for us all. He will be sadly missed and we take comfort in knowing that he is smiling down at us now.
The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Health Sciences North for their care and compassion.
Due to the current pandemic, there will be no visitation. A private visitation will be held at the Lougheed Funeral Home and a prive mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Church on Monday, January 11th, 2021. A celebration of Enzo’s life will be held when Covid restrictions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, donations to Health Sciences North Cardiac Unit or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
