Obituary for Matti Olavi Peura
In Loving Memory of Matti Olavi Peura. Saturday, November 18th, 2023, at his home.
Beloved husband of 71 years to Aili Peura (Voutila). Loving father of Marjatta predeceased, Markku (Kim) and Kari (Tracy). Cherished Pappa of Dr. Aliisa (Jason), Erikk, Kaarina, Tiia, Cadence (Chase) and Keegan. Dear son of Jalmari and Toini Peura both predeceased. Dear brother of Emill (Anna) both predeceased, and Risto (Tuula). Dear uncle of Sirkka (Mark Laberge), Tuulikki Knight (Don Brickett), Hilkka (Ernie Taylor predeceased) and Matti. Dear cousin of Sandra Doorey. He is also missed by relatives in Canada, Finland, and Sweden.
Dad and his brother Emill left Toholampi, Finland in 1957, landing on pier 21 in Halifax. They worked in lumber camps in Kormak, construction on Hwy 401 and at Laurentian University. He enjoyed a good career at INCO, Levack Mine, retiring in 1992. A true handy man, he built many houses and kitchen cabinets, all the furniture in his house and his family’s homes. Never one to sit still, he loved spending time at camp on Onaping Lake which he built from the ground up in 1969. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and making cedar baskets. A master of many skills from wood working to welding. He always said he could fix anything but a broken heart.
At Matti’s request there will be no service. Cremation.
