Obituary for Olga Roman (Zebruk)

Olga Roman passed away peacefully and gently on Friday evening, May 5th, 2023, at the age of 96. She was born in Cochrane, Ontario, the only child of Tony and Helen Zebruk. She was a proud Northerner who lived in Kirkland Lake, North Bay, and Sudbury, and had a deep connection to her Ukrainian heritage.

Pre-deceased by husband William ‘Bill’ Roman, and son Peter Anthony Roman, Olga is survived by her daughters; Nicki Perpick (Nick), Donna Rudakas (Peter), Mary-Ann Makuch (Ted). Grandchildren; Nicola Perpick, Alexandra Perpick, Alexander Rudakas (Alyssa), and Benjamin Rudakas. Great-grandson; Henrik Rudakas. Sister-in-law; Dr. Olga Roman.

For over 65 years, Olga was an active participant in the Sudbury community. She served with the Home and School of the Sudbury Board of Education and was a member of the Church of the Epiphany and is remembered in their prayers. Olga was also a joyful volunteer at The Ukrainian Seniors Centre, where she happily rolled holubtsi and pinched pieroghi. Olga was a lifelong supporter of the Arts and Music, and her passion for community service was evident through her involvement with organizations like the Sudbury Theatre Centre, the Art Gallery of Sudbury, and the Northern Echoes Senior Choir. Her commitment to giving back, was further highlighted through her service with the Sudbury Kinettes. Olga Roman will be remembered as a dedicated and loving member of her community, always willing to lend a helping hand and spread joy wherever she went.

We thank the following for her continuity of care: Doctor David Sivers, Doctor James Chau and the Geriatric Team at Health Sciences North, Southwind Retirement Residence, and St. Josephs Villa where Olga received respect, dignity, and outstanding care from a dedicated staff.

Always the picture of poise and elegance, Olga walked through the world with grace, beauty, and a song in her heart.

Olga will be remembered in prayers on Sunday June 18th at the Church of the Epiphany at 10:30am.

Memorial donations may be made to The Ukrainian Seniors Centre or St. Josephs Villa through Lougheed Funeral Homes.
