May was the youngest daughter of William Tanner and Nell Tanner (White), born on January 31st, 1927. She was predeceased by brothers Lloyd, Leonard, Dennis, and Arthur (Frank) sisters Winnifred (Winn) Siggery & Leslie, Dorothy (Dolly)Fred Packer and Alice (Kitty) Tom Shell (Hampshire UK)

May grew up in the military town of Aldershot, England during the Second World War. It is here that she met a young Canadian soldier by the name of Dwain Collison, who was training infantry men. She married Dwain on September 30th, 1945. May was one of the 48,000 war brides who were provided passage by ship to Canada in 1946.

Following the war, Dwain was an employee of INCO, so they settled in Sudbury. Both Glory and Jim were born in Sudbury in the years that followed. The family then moved to Lively in 1951 and finally to Patricia St. in Waters Township (aka Mikkola subdivision) in 1964.

May had strong religious beliefs was very active in the Lively Trinity United Church and in later years the Christ Anglican Church of Lively, where she supported both the UCW and ACW. She was a skilled knitter and an avid baker and contributed many knitted creations and baked goods to numerous church sponsored events. She was an avid reader and was a member of the Lively/Waters Friends of the Library for many years.

May was a proud member of the Canadian War Brides Association and served on the Sudbury executive for several years.

May loved to dance, both ballroom and square dancing. She also loved to travel and did so until she was 92. She travelled throughout Canada, the US, UK, and Europe with Dwain, her daughter Glory and son in law Dueane, niece Maureen and Gerry, nephew David, and Jim and Linda in her later years. We have shared great memories with May in Florida, England, Scotland, Ireland, Holland, France, Cyprus, Hungary, and many trips to beautiful British Columbia.

May had strong religious beliefs and was known to be a kind and gentle lady who will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Maison McColloch Hospice for the exceptional care May received in her final days with us. We also would like to express our thanks and appreciation to May’s PSW, Tammy from Bayshore, who brought joy and a “ray of sunshine” into our home twice weekly, for the past 4 years.
