Obituary for Shirley Florence Fournier (Pelley)

Shirley Florence Fournier (née Pelley) passed away in the peaceful, caring surroundings of Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury on Sunday, April 23, 2023, just five days shy of her 84th birthday. Shirley is predeceased by her loving husband Ellard Fournier. Predeceased by siblings Freda English, Lillian Cramm, Joe Pelley, all of Newfoundland, Katie Ryan of Dryden, and sister-in-law Carolyn Mellaney of Sudbury. Shirley is survived by her in-laws Cyril (Katie predeceased) Ryan, Margaret (Richard predeceased) Hurme, Joan & Louis Lalonde, Ellen (Terry predeceased) Fournier, Harold & Pauline Fournier, Ethel (Cliff predeceased) Fournier, Lindsay & Sandra Fournier, Marlene (Sydney predeceased) Fournier, and Randy (Sandra predeceased) Fournier. Her many nieces and nephews will miss their loving and quirky “Auntie Shirley”, and she will be fondly remembered by so many cherished friends & neighbours in Coniston.
Born in Deer Lake, Newfoundland, Shirley was a proud “Newfie” who moved to the mainland as a young woman and became a long-time resident of Coniston, Ontario. Shirley had a zeal for life, a gift for gab, and a wonderfully silly sense of humour. She loved people, loved dogs, loved giving big hugs, and loved peppering conversations with terms of endearment like “honey” & “babe”. During her battle with lung cancer for over 4 years, Shirley was determined, resilient, and brave. Her family is thankful for the wonderful care given to Shirley at HSN’s Northeast Cancer Centre and during her last month of life at Maison McCulloch Hospice.
Following Shirley’s wishes, there will be no service or visitation. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Lougheed’s. Interment will be along side her beloved husband, Ellard, at St. John’s Cemetery in Garson. Donations in memory of Shirley to Maison McCulloch Hospice or Pet Save would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Homes.
