Obituary for Hazen Leonard Gauthier

In Loving Memory of Hazen Leonard Gauthier, 91 years old, who passed away peacefully at Maison McCulloch Hospice on April 7, 2023. Beloved husband of Pauline. Hazen was one of 4 brothers being Douglas (Myra), Robert predeceased, and Gary (Sandra). He will be missed dearly by nieces Jennifer, Heather, and predeceased by nephews Gregory and Graham.
Born in Sudbury, Hazen attended Sudbury Technical School where his pastime was pole vaulting. Upon enlisting in the Canadian Army, he trained at Camp Borden with the Provost Corps. His military experience extended to the Korean Conflict War. Upon returning to civilian life, he spent some five years as a motorcycle traffic policeman with the Sudbury Police Force but left to own and run, with his brother Gary, an insurance adjusting firm called SCS Adjusters. Following retirement, his winters were spent at his home in Naples, Florida where he enjoyed fishing with his long-time friend Bruce Bovingdon. He is the owner of a near record 5lbs. Lane Snapper which is mounted in his home with his other hunting achievements. He also enjoyed leisure golfing at the Idylwylde and at Old Chemmy.
Hazen was a good and caring person whose life was spent helping others. His proudest memory resulted from the work he and his friend Paul Falkowski spent protecting the rights of Sudbury citizens to clean Lake Ramsey drinking water. These riparian rights are recorded and enshrined by law in the Supreme Court of Ontario. As per Hazen’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Charity of Choice would be appreciated. For donations or messages of condolence, www.lougheedfuneralhomes.com
