Obituary for Milton "Milt" James Fleming

In loving memory of Milton James Fleming who peacefully left this world after not quite 92 years, on Friday March 24th after a brief struggle with a non-covid virus.
Milt was born in Sudbury Ontario and a proud boy from the Donovan, living on Melvin Ave. Devoted to youth and the Christian faith, he became very involved in both. Dad was active in the Anglican Church and took on leadership roles with boys in Scouting, at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London Ontario, and C.B.L (Church Boys League) with the Church of the Resurrection in Sudbury. He was Akela for the 15th Sudbury Cub ‘A’ Pack at St. Peter’s United in Sudbury. He was a member of the Vestry Board at the Resurrection. As superintendent of the Sunday School in Sudbury he ensured that there were individual classes from kindergarten to Grade 8 and managed an annual Christmas pageant with lighting, costuming, singing and so on. He was a member of the Church of the Ascension.
Dad the athlete was a member of the Sudbury Mining and Technical High School basketball team playing in the all Ontario final against St. Mikes. He played what amounted to ‘semi-pro’ / industrial league hockey and football and was offered a tryout with the Edmonton Eskimos, which he declined to pursue. He continued to proudly support athletics in the family, by attending his son’s and grandsons’ football, basketball, and swimming events.
Young Milt apprenticed briefly as a machinist in London and worked to build the first “cobalt bomb” chair, the forerunner to today’s radiation therapy. Moving back home to Sudbury, he eventual retired, after 41 years, with Muirhead’s Stationers as the Sales Manager.
V.W. Brother Fleming was active in the Masonic order having joined Kilwinning Lodge No. 64 in London, then in Sudbury, as a member and Past Master of Nickel Lodge No. 427 G.R.C., the Sudbury and District Lodge of Perfection and the Sudbury Shrine Club.
Dear son of Olive (Ledsworth) and Edward Fleming both predeceased.
Loving husband of 61 years to Shirley (Lymburner) Fleming.
Dad is survived by son Rob Fleming (Fern), four grandsons; Stephen (Erica predeceased), James (Crystal), Andrew (Robyn) and Patrick (Jenna) and five great-grandchildren; Reid, Caleigh, Clarke, Conley and Harlow of whom he was so very proud.

Remembering sister-in-law Marguerite (George) and brother-in-law Edward (Bud) all predeceased, and his nieces and nephews in Sarnia.
