Obituary for Lena Mary O'Donohoe (Murray)

It is with great sadness that the family of Lena Mary (Eileen) O'Donohoe announces the passing of a deeply loved wife and mother on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Maison McCulloch Hospice at the age of 88 years old after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Eileen is survived by her devoted husband Peter and her three sons Ronan (Amay), Niall (Kristy) and Enda (Erika). Cherished grandmother of Rhiannon, Ciara, Dylan, Riley and Niamh. Daughter of the late William and Bridget Murray. Predeceased by brothers John, Owen and Nicky. Sister to Hannah Cassidy, Carmel Keogh, Celia Cullinane and Monica Dolan, all from Galway, Ireland. Sister-in-law to Una Murray, Galway and Mary Murray, New York.

Eileen left the temperate climate of Galway with her husband Peter in November 1968 for the harsh climate of Winnipeg before relocating to Sudbury in May 1970. She quickly became acclimatized to the Canadian way of life. Eileen became a member of the Idylwylde Golf and Curling Club where she enjoyed golfing, curling and cross-country skiing. She loved solving crossword puzzles, Scrabble, playing bridge and going swimming at Lake Nepahwin at the earliest opportunity possible.

Eileen was a member of Christ the King Parish for 50 years. She was fortunate to be blessed with a long life, one that was filled with love and surrounded by dear friends and family. Eileen departed this life much the same way she lived — with dignity, gentleness, poise, love and an abundance of strength. Her legacy will live in our hearts forever.

Special thanks to Drs Killian de Blacam, Sean Mahoney, Pablo Cano and Jeffrey Emack and the incredibly wonderful nurses and staff at the Northeast Cancer Centre, Health Sciences North 7 North surgery ward and Maison McCulloch Hospice. Thanks also to a special friend and nurse Pauline Bonneville and dear friend Anne M for their staunch support.

In keeping with Eileen's wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes will be interred in her native Galway. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Church in Sudbury on Friday, March 17th at 9.30 a.m. If desired, donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be appreciated.
