Obituary for Francesco Giorgio Piccin

Francesco Giorgio Piccin
October 4, 1933 - March 3, 2023

In loving memory of Francesco Giorgio Piccin, 89 years. Passed away
peacefully on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Health Sciences North
Hospital.

Beloved husband of Bruna (nee Pessot). Loving father of Gabriella (Tony Golea), Franca (Steven Totolo), and Bruno. Treasured Nonno to Noah.

Dear son of the late Giovanni and Teresa Piccin of San Fior di Sotto, ltaly. Loving brother of lrma (Nino) both predeceased, lda (Mario) both predeceased, Pietro predeceased (Ida), Maria (Gerardo) both predeceased, Angelo (Aurora) both predeceased, Carletto, ltalo (Ines), and Alvise (Pierina predeceased).

He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.

Francesco loved entertaining his family and friends with funny stories. He could always be counted on to make us laugh, and even blush sometimes! He was known for making excellent Italian wine, chopping wood for his wood stove, and tending to his large garden which always produced an abundance of vegetables every year. Francesco was also a proud, and long-time member of the Gruppo Alpini of Sudbury and the Caruso Club's Golden Age Group.

Thanks to his wife of 65 years, he began ballroom dancing as a young man, and later, thoroughly enjoyed spending time with friends, Bill and Katie, Fred and lda, and Loreen and Gianni, at many of the dance halls in the Sudbury area. Francesco always found time to chat with neighbors where he would frequently offer up a glass of wine along with advice on growing the best vegetables.

He also fondly recounted many memories of his 45 years in the mining industry, working across northern Quebec and Ontario. Conditions were tough, but Francesco persevered, working long hours, and taking pride in learning his trade through the “school of hard-knocks”. When challenges arose at work, he was often the ‘go-to’ person in his crew, solving difficult issues with drive and determination.

Beyond these accomplishments, he cherished his time with his family where he instilled in his children a strong work ethic, the importance of a good education, the value of savings, a deep love of family and friends, and respect for faith.

We were privileged to have Francesco for 89 years, and although we will miss him every day, we are filled with gratitude for the many fond memories we have shared together.
