In Loving Memory of Franz Walpert
June 30, 1955 - February 8,2023
It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Franz Walpert on February 8, 2023 at the cottage in Nairn Centre, Ontario at the age of 67. Franz leaves behind a loving family including his wife Maire (nee Mcllraith), daughters Rachel (Aaron), Yvette and Michelle, and grandchildren Charlotte and Benjamin. He will be greatly missed by his family in Switzerland, Toni (Suzanne) and their children, and Ursula (Ard) and their daughter in Holland. He will also be missed by his numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews in both Canada and Switzerland. He is predeceased by his parents Katherin and Anton, his parents-in-law John and Sheila and his daughter Adrienne. Franz began his professional career as a chef apprentice in Basel, Switzerland. Franz immigrated to Canada in 1976 after serving in the Swiss Army as a Sergeant Major. His qualifications as a Certified Chef de Cuisine and his experience working in many kitchens in Switzerland and Canada served him well as a professor at Cambrian College in Sudbury, Ontario.
He was admired and respected for his passion and skill while leading culinary arts students at the renowned "Le Fontaine Bleu" restaurant. Franz retired in 2012 and pursued many interests including travelling, fishing, boating and visiting with his grandchildren while continuing to delight family and friends with memorable meals. He especially loved summers when he could cut wood and work on various outdoor projects at his camp on Beaver Lake and later his cottage on the Spanish River. Franz will always be remembered by the many people who knew and loved him for his work ethic, leadership skills, quiet confidence and love for his native Switzerland. Please take the time to give your friends and family some extra love and attention. Franz will be cremated and his life will be remembered privately. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
