Obituary for Elizabeth Blackwell (Walsh)

It is with gratitude for a wonderful life lived that we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Joan” (Walsh) Blackwell. Survived by her husband and scrabble partner of 53 years, Don and her daughters Melanie (Dan) and Sarah Blackwell. Nanny will be forever loved by her grandchildren Megg and Jake Blackwell, Sarita, Kiigin and Nova Blackwell Bellefeuille. Also loved by Kyle, Tammy, Jenny and Troy Roszel. Joan dedicated her career to working as a Secretary at St. James Catholic Elementary School, where she lovingly adored and cared for every sick, injured or crying child. Joan became a confidante and trusted lifelong friend to many of her colleagues. Joan’s circle of close knit friends is proof of a life well lived; from Thanksgivings at Onaping, summers on Manitoulin Island, card nights, monthly dinner parties, yearly girls weekends at camp to Sunday golf and dinner out, Joan loved and was loved by many. In her forties, Joan enrolled in a Bachelors of Counselling degree program at Laurentian University, and proudly graduated in May 1994. At Joan’s request there will be no visitation with direct cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be appreciated.

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us everyday, unseen, unheard but always near. Still loved, still missed and very dear”

A celebration of life will be take place on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 1-4pm at the Walden Seniors Centre, 615 Kin Street, Lively, Ontario
