Obituary for Hilda Yvonne Vande Weghe (Degrande)

With saddened hearts, and loving memories, we announce the passing of Hilda Vande Weghe of Copper Cliff at the age of 87. Hilda passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023. She was born in Belgium on September 29th, 1935, to a large family and immigrated to Canada in 1963, settling in Sarnia before moving to Sudbury. Hilda held many roles in her life, as a loving daughter, wife, mother, and Oma. In every role she played she did it with a full heart and gave it her all. From having one of the most beautiful back yards in all of Copper Cliff, to the smell of her fresh banana bread every Saturday morning, she always went the extra mile in everything she did. As a faithful Catholic, she practiced gratitude every day, always happy to have something to do, something to love and something to look forward to.

Hilda leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Frans (predeceased), her sons Jamie (predeceased) and his wife Luanne (Joe Mione), Tony and his wife Sacha (of Thunder Bay) and Patrick (predeceased). She had unconditional love for her grandchildren, Corissa (Sean Hackett) and Connor, and her step grandchildren, Matteo, and Marica Mione, who proudly called her their Oma. She was the beloved daughter of Godelieve and Gerard Degrande, and the sister of Cyrin (predeceased), Jose, Lena, Paul, and Gabriel (predeceased), all of Belgium. Loving sister-in-law to the Vande Weghe family of Belgium. Special friend to Maria and Cesar Mione. Will be sadly missed by family and many friends both in Belgium and Canada. She is now reunited with her husband Frans, and two sons, Jamie, and Patrick.

Resting at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St, Sudbury. (Friends may call 2-4pm Sunday). Funeral Mass in St. Stanislaus Church, Copper Cliff on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 10am. Cremation with interment in the family plot at the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Stanislaus Church Memorial Fund or Health Sciences North – Children’s Treatment Center would be appreciated.
