Obituary for Gino "Penner" Oliver

In loving memory of Gino “Penner” Oliver who passed away peacefully at Maison McCulloch Hospice on January 8, 2023, at the age of 91. He is now reunited with the love of his life Maureen (nee Jarbeau) pre -deceased October 2015. Gino was born in Coniston May 18 ,1931, to Luigi and Carlotta (nee Meneghin), the youngest child in a Family of five. In his younger years Penner was a Star pitcher for the Coniston Red Sox Junior Team being named the League’s most valuable player on two occasions. He was employed by INCO as a maintenance mechanic from 1951 until his retirement. Penner took great pride in his gardening skills and was an avid hunter. He was also a lifetime member of the Club Allegri. Uncle Penner remained a die-hard Detroit Red Wings fan until the very end. Dear brother of Rena Zanatta (Luigi), Ida Baldisera (Gino), Ado “Art” Oliver, Rita Marcon (Liberale) all pre-deceased. Predeceased by Lorne Jarbeau and his in-laws Arthur and Honora Jarbeau. He is survived by his sister- in -law Theresa Oliver (Art) and Maureen’s siblings Jo-Anne Wilson, and Mary Driver (Tom). Uncle Penner always had time for his nieces and nephews, as well as their spouses and children, who consider themselves blessed to have had him with us for so long. He will live on in our Hearts. The Family would like to thank Dr. Walton, the nurses, PSWs, staff and volunteers at the Maison McCulloch Hospice, as well as Dr. Nistico, Dr. Merotto and the staff at Health Sciences North, 8 North for the wonderful care they provided to him. Dr. Walton told us that Uncle Penner had a Heart of Gold and everyone he knew would agree. Resting at Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury, ON. Friends may call 2-5 and 7-9 pm Friday, January 13th with parish prayers at 3pm Friday. Funeral Mass at St Paul the Apostle Church, 38 Cedar St., Coniston, ON, Saturday January 14th at 10:00 am.
