It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Oreskovich; mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (Gma), aunt and loyal friend. Rita loved and lived life to the fullest with a keen sense of curiosity, a love for adventure, travel, art, music and above all family. When the burden of age narrowed her world, her family, especially her great grandchildren were her ‘best medicine’.
Beloved wife of the late Stephen Oreskovich, Rita was predeceased by her parents Charles Edward Gravel and Juliette (Brosseau). Rita’s love and curiosity live on through her children Daniel Oreskovich (Susan), Deborah Oreskovich (Maureen), Kelly Oreskovich (Bob) and Kathy Farrell (Mark) and her doting grandchildren Aidan Wharton (Kristiina), Jordan Wharton (Regina), Tanner Oreskovich (Layla), Larissa Pyykko (Andrew), Darik Oreskovich (April), Maxwell MacDonald (Amber) and Targa Robinson (Devon). Rita adored her great grandchildren who brought her so much joy and happiness. Lovingly referred to as Gma, she will be forever missed by August, Lillian, Lennon, Emerson and Lynken. She will be also dearly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Rita was loved and predeceased by her 2 brothers, Leo and Robert Gravel and sister Carmen Gardner. She is survived by her brother and best of friends Jacques Gravel (Sylvia), sisters-in-law Maryanne Sauve (John), Cathy Desjardins (Raymond) and brother-in-law Mathew Oreskovich.
Rita was quiet, curious, wise, tolerant and kind. There was no artistic project that she would not or could not master and she filled the homes of those she loved with paintings, sketches, beautiful wood carvings, pottery and flower arrangements. She travelled widely, first with her husband Stephen, then with any willing travel partner! She loved to read, play scrabble and was surprisingly competitive! Rita showed us all how to embrace and get the most out of life. At the end she was surrounded by the family she created, she will be sorely missed.
Donations to the Northern Cancer Foundation would be appreciated. The family also wish to extend their deepest appreciation for the kindness of the Emergency Room and ICU staff at Health Sciences North who were so very kind to mom and our family as we navigated this difficult time.
