Obituary for Hellevi Emilia Tuomi (Neimi)

It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of Hellevi Emilia Tuovi Tuomi (Neimi) on November 16th. She joins her late husband Oiva while leaving behind her children Vesa (Lise), Miriam (Derrick) and Sirpa (Daniel Pellerin). She and Oiva also lovingly raised their eldest granddaughter, Eliisa Whyte. She leaves behind her other grandchildren, Eric, Lisa, Shelby, Nicholas, Janne, Miikka, Aaron, Matthew, Sara (predeceased), Sidney, and great grandchildren, Anakin, Miikka (predeceased), and Wyatt. Hellevi was a trail blazer, being the first woman on Chief Lake Road to acquire her driver's license. Education was extremely important to her as she acquired her grade 12, and her Business diploma from Cambrian College in Sudbury. She loved learning new skills and being in school. When she arrived in Canada, English was a second language she enjoyed learning and continued throughout her life. She was involved in many activities and loved being a member of the YMCA. She also supported Oiva in his role as president of the Voima Athletic Club and helped in establishing the Finlandia Koti. Hellevi was a dedicated nutritionist, believing in a well-balanced, home-cooked meals. She loved blueberry picking and her sauna and swimming at Lake Panage. She will be remembered by her infectious smile, her charming wit and her great sense of humour. She will be missed by so many friends, old and new. She always had plenty of coffee and pula on the coffee table, and a smile. At Hellevi’s request, there will be no visitation or service. Donations to the Canadian Lung Association would be appreciated. (Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Homes).
