Obituary for Shirley Burke (Biggings)

Burke, Shirley Margaret (nee Biggings)
It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great and Great Great Nanny Shirley on September 28, 2022. A life-long resident of the Sudbury area. She was 96 1/2. Wife of the late Ron Burke predeceased 2007. Also predeceased by her brothers Brian and Grant and her granddaughter Carrie Lynn Sheppard. Survived by her brother Red Biggings. She will forever be missed by her daughters Laura Sheppard (Murray), Lynn Dolliver (Ken, predeceased 2022), and Diane. Survived by her granddaughters Jennifer Roberts-Teale (Jake), Amy Roberts (Frank), Kimberley O’Neill (Kelly), and Dawna Sheppard (Adam Malolepszy). Nanny Shirley had 15 great grandchildren: Taylor Roberts (Dani), Emma and Riley Teale (Tina); Jordan Roberts, Cole and Tyson Ferguson, Michael Dean; Catie and James Kostopolous; Ericka, Sabrina, Alec and Owen O’Neill; Charlotte and Julia Malolepszy. Shirley was fortunate to have one great great grandson, Rory Roberts and was able to have pictures taken of the five generations not that long ago. Sister-in-law to Willard and Glorianne Burke, Janet Kulmatycki and Jim and Julie Burke. She’ll be missed by cousins, nieces, and nephews. Shirley retired from the Accounting Department at Falconbridge Limited in 1981 and when Dad retired in 1985 they spent 15 winters in Holiday, Florida and their summers at Fairbank Lake at the camp they built together starting in 1964. Up until last month she was still helping to stack wood and split kindling, going for walks, and enjoying life with a little Bailey’s in her morning coffee. She loved to read and enjoyed watching golf, curling and the NFL on TV. We love you momma, always and forever in our hearts. Day is done, gone the sun. From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky; All is well, safely rest, God is nigh. Thank you to the caring and compassionate staff on 8 North at HSN and the MAiD program for carrying out mom’s wishes. These last few days have been very special for us. At mom’s request there will be no visitation and the family will celebrate together later. Cremation to take place. Interment in the Biggings family plot in the Anglican Cemetery, Sudbury. Arrangements entrusted to Lougheed Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations to the Sudbury Food Bank or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
