It is with profound sadness that the family announces the death of Martti Axel Luoma, born March 12, 1938. He passed away peacefully September 12, 2022 surrounded by family. Born in Timmins, ON, he moved to Sudbury and married Evelyne Luoma (nee MacDonald, predeceased) on September 2, 1961. He worked for Inco as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for 32 years and happily retired in 1991. He was an avid volunteer for Easter Seals and one of the founding members of Broder Dill Snowmobile Assoc. Martti loved woodworking, camping, fishing, hunting, and tending his large vegetable garden. Devoted father to: Laila Krieg (John) and Julie Weaver (Blaine). Affectionately known as “Poppa” to his three Grandchildren: Stephen (Caitlynne), Austin (Jessica), Kayla. He is survived by his 8 siblings (Unto (Evelyn), Ray (Yollanda), Reino (Cathy), Paul (Sharon), Kenny (Marilyn), Eric (Yvonne), Eila, Walter (Gloria), and his two sister-in-laws Sandra (Fred, predeceased), and Kimberly.

A Celebration of Life will be held October 1st, 2022 from 1-4pm at Lockerby Legion on Long Lake Road. All are welcome to join the family in paying their respects and sharing stories of Martti’s amazing life. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Homes.
