Obituary for Laurie Edison Knight

Laurie Edison Knight

Laurie passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 26 with his family by his side, at 7:45 pm at Health Sciences North, after a short and intense battle with lung cancer. Laurie Edison was born in Curling, Newfoundland on June 28, 1946. He was the youngest of three siblings, Brenda (Knight) Traverse (Don) and Gary Knight (Martha) and was the proud son of Earnest and Pearl Knight, both predeceased. He was extremely proud of his roots and often reminisced about his
younger years and his many friends back home in Newfoundland. This is also where his love for mechanics began. In October 1966, like many young Newfoundlanders, Laurie left his home at the age of 19 with 40 dollars in his pocket and headed for Northern Ontario to work at INCO Ltd. He retired from INCO after 38 years of service. He was a true outdoors man, who spent much of his time outside, whether it be quading, hunting, fishing or cutting wood with his beloved partner Sandra. When at home, you could find him puttering in his garage. His talents were many, from cooking traditional dishes from back home, like a jigs dinner for his family, to fixing cars, tinkering with electrical projects for his daughters, or planting his summer garden - there was no job he could not take on. He loved sitting in his backyard watching his grandchildren splash around in the pool for hours. He also loved attending his grandchildren's hockey games and was a fiercely devoted Leaf’s fan. He will be dearly missed by many. Laurie is survived by the love of his life and partner of 19 years, Sandra Lawrence; His daughter, Leann Knight (Mick) and grandsons Noah and Atley Gringorten; His daughter Dawn Knight (Paul) and grandchildren Sara and Tommy Brenton; His daughter Ashley Barry and grandson Amos Tixador; and finally his grand-furbabies whom he loved so much, Marley and Winnie. He will also be remembered by his lifelong friends Kevin and Mable Sheppard of Lark Harbour, NL and Alec and Ricki Murley of Corner Brook, NL, along with many other friends and family. Our Family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, PSW’s and staff at the Northeastern Cancer Center and Palliative Care Unit. We would like to extend a special thank you to Chantal, a very special PSW and to Dr. Singh and Dr. Golapalakrishnan for the compassionate care they provided to Dad.

As per Dad’s wishes there will be no funeral, instead we will hold a small Celebration of Life in late August. In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the NEO Kids Foundation in memory of Laurie.

Family and Friends are welcome to gather for a graveside prayer service on August 5th, 2022 at 1:00P.M. at the Maplecrest Cemetery in Dowling. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home.
