Obituary for Elfo Di Filippo

In loving memory of Elfo DiFilippo, who passed away peacefully at Health Science North, on Wednesday June 8, 2022.
Beloved husband of Elsa (nee Favretto) for 71 years. They were married in Copper Cliff at the Italian Club on September 12,1951.
Loving Father of Donna Mancini (Rick), David (Mary Jo) and Paul (Rita).
Loving and caring Nonno of David Mancini, Adam Mancini (Julie), Mark Mancini (Jerica), Daniel DiFilippo (Catherine), Steven DiFilippo (Divina), Anna DiFilippo (Adam), Simona DiFilippo, John Paul DiFilippo and Sophia DiFilippo.
Loving Bisnonno of Peter, Evie, and Isaac.
Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Dad was born in the small mining town of Creighton Mine to Maria (Posocco) and Aliprando DiFilippo, both predeceased. He loved to share many happy stories of growing up there with his two brothers Almo and Enci, both predeceased. They were apparently quite the trio! He married a Copper Cliff girl (he said he married up) and started their life together. Dad liked to joke that he graduated from the University of Creighton Mine but make no mistake, he was a self-taught financial expert, carpenter and general handyman and he shared these skills generously with his family.
Dad worked as an X-Ray technician at the Inco Hospital in Copper Cliff, was part owner of a local carpet store, then manager and estimator at Imperial Auto Body in Sudbury. He was a hard worker, and he passed this work ethic on to his children. Dad and Mom were life members of the Caruso Club. They were also members of the Golden Age Club at the Caruso and as such, enjoyed their monthly dinners and big band dance nights. To say that they loved to dance together is an understatement. Seeing them jive and polka together was like watching beauty in motion. They also loved picking blueberries and not even bear encounters could deter them from filling those baskets. The grandchildren could always each expect some blueberry branches laden with fruit to pick and eat themselves. His garden was his pride and joy always yielding beautiful vegetables and flowers. Above all, Dad was committed to his family.
The family would like to thank Bayshore for their support over the years-particularly Heather, Andrea, and Lynn. We would also like to thank the staff on the First Floor Overflow unit, and 5 South at Health Sciences North for their kindness and care during Dad’s final days. Special thanks to Dr. Falk and Dr. Zymantas for their compassion.
