Obituary for Marjorie Francis Dankewich (Wither)

We regret to announce the passing of Marjorie Francis Dankewich (née Wither) at the age of 88 (April 6, 1934 – May 19, 2022) at the Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury.

Marjorie was the eldest daughter of Angus Robert William Wither (1908-1997) and Myrtle Amelia-Anne Wither Chabot (née Dagg, 1913-1999), and the stepdaughter of Lola (née Paquette, 1921-1997). She was the loving wife of 49 years to Eugene "Gene" (1932-2002) and mother to "her boys", Eugene "Gene" Danial (Susan Schillemore) of Richmond Hill, Robert William (Lori Hunter) of Orillia, and Ivan Lee (Linda - née Cappelletti) of Orillia. She was also extremely proud to be grandmother to Anna Leigh and Claire Allison of Orillia.

Marjorie is predeceased by siblings David (Noreen), Allan Chabot, and Wanda Paris (Kenneth) and will be remembered by siblings Richard “Bruce” McNab (Gaetane) of Sudbury, Carol Bowne (Joe) of Toronto, Orma Schroeder (Mike) of Chelmsford, Orval (Rusty) of Lively, Dorothy Carter (Ron) of Lively, and Patsy Neimi of Chelmsford.

Marjorie enjoyed a warm relationship with her in-laws, including her mother-in-law Anne of Beausejour, Manitoba, and her siblings-in-law Steve (Lucille) of Winnipeg, Arthur (Lula Belle) of Thunder Bay, Mike (Marion) and Helen Bialek (Tom) of Delhi, Ontario.

Marjorie never forgot her aunt Ida Foisey (née Dagg, 1919-1962) and her older brother David’s (1929-1971) love and kindness as a child. Also worth noting is Marjorie’s long friendship with the Gilfillan family and the close relationship she has had with their youngest daughter, Anne Marie Benoit.

“Auntie Margie” is how she was affectionately known to so many. We are confident that all of you are aware of how important you were to her.

To know our mom is to know that she rarely met a person who didn’t become a friend, with many becoming lifelong friends. To all those she called her friends, please know that she genuinely cherished her friendship with all of you.

Our mother had many fond memories of her early childhood in Sudbury, and she often talked of starting out as a young woman working at the Metropolitan Department Store in Sudbury. She would positively light up when she talked about starting her own family in the small village of Naughton. She spoke highly of the years she spent in the town of Creighton Mine and the surrounding area, and she was very pleased to be able to call herself the “Last Postmaster for the Town of Creighton Mine.” She spent many happy years living in Orillia with Gene prior to moving back to Sudbury in 2013. Her final years were spent living in a senior’s residence in Lively where she was an enthusiastic member of the Walden Seniors group.

Our family would like to thank the management, and the amazing staff, of the former Community Care Access Centre (CCAC), Home and Community Care (HCC), The Independence Centre and Network (ICAN), Bayshore Home Health, and the Maison McCulloch Hospice for the care and kindness that you provided to our mother.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to Maison McCulloch Hospice, or the Canadian Cancer Society.

In keeping with Marjorie’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Arrangements are entrusted to Lougheed Funeral Home.
