Obituary for Francesco Santoro

Francesco Santoro
March 18, 1935 - June 6, 2021

It is with immense sorrow that the family announces the passing of Francesco “Frank” Santoro, after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer, June 6th, 2021 at the age of 86, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband to Rita Santoro (Luciani). Loving father to Lisa Santoro and Linda Santoro (predeceased). Cherished Nonno to Jacob Lachapelle (Danyelle), Ariana Santoro-Lachapelle (Kevin), and Lucas Lachapelle. He will be greatly missed by his sister Serafina Santoro (Alberto Filice predeceased) and brother Mario Santoro (Virginia Gallo) of Italy, as well as his nieces, nephew, and many cousins. He is predeceased by his mother Giuseppina Lavorato and father Vincenzo Santoro.

Born in Piane Crati, Cosenza, Italy, Frank picked up his family trade of barrel making during the war. At 16 years of age, he moved to Sudbury and began working odd jobs in construction, before beginning his career in men’s fashion. He proudly dressed the men of Sudbury for over 40 years. It was common for a brisk walk on the boardwalk to turn into a three hour affair, as he stopped to talk to everyone he knew along the way. He touched the lives of many, and will be sorely missed. Frank enjoyed spending his time fishing and gardening. He was a skilled and adept gardener; he meticulously pruned and cleaned his garden. Even in his final days, he would sit outside and enjoy his flowers.

A very special thank you to Dr. Gopalakrishnan, Dr. Falk, Dr. Want, Dr. Pitre, Erika, to Danielle and her team from Maison McCulloch Hospice, and the Bayshore team for providing the best care and comfort. Also, to our family and friends who helped out during this difficult time.

A private Mass will be celebrated with his family on Thursday, June 10th, 2021 at Our Lady of Hope Church, 591 Brennan Road, Sudbury. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elgin St. Mission or the Blue Door Soup Kitchen. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home, www.lougheedfuneralhomes.com.
