Obituary for Vasco Piccinin

Vasco passed peacefully on Friday, May 28, 2021, in his 80th year. He will be cherished by his loving wife Agnes (nee Zamiska), daughters Carole Anne (Renzo Cecchetto) and Catherine (Morgan Currie), grandchildren Matteo and Cesare/“Chazz”, brother Sergio (Sheila), as well as several cousins in Canada, Italy and Australia. He is predeceased by his sister Anna (1946) and parents Rosina (2003) and Elio (1973). A funeral Mass will be celebrated with his family at his Ottawa parish, Our Lady of the Visitation Church at 11AM, Thursday, June 3, which may be viewed live on the Daley Family Funeral Home facebook page by clicking here . His final resting place will be in Sudbury. Born and raised in Gatchell, a small suburb of Sudbury, Ontario, Vasco graduated from St. Charles College High School and attended North Bay Teachers College. He began teaching in Gatchell at St. Anthony’s School in 1961. Promoted to principal in 1963, he served at five Catholic elementary schools and had a 35-year career in education. He received his undergraduate degree at Laurentian University in 1969 and a post graduate degree from the University of Toronto (O.I.S.E.) in 1976. A dedicated Roman Catholic, he contributed to his religious community in various ways, including as a reader for the Mass for the Shut-ins for 25 years. Meticulous and thorough with everything he undertook, Vasco was a skilled communicator. He was an adept and passionate gardener and was finessed in the preparation of traditional Italian fare. Ever a teacher, Vasco took great pride sharing his instructional magic that came with growing lettuce and radicchio, and making his legendary wine, sausages, porchettas, “brodo” and meatballs. Donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, Northern Cancer Foundation or the Elisabeth Bruyere Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated. Condolences may be left by clicking here .
