Obituary for Ronald Douglas Kinnunen

Ronald Douglas Kinnunen
July 11, 1950 - May 6, 2021, age 70.
Survived by his beloved wife Simone (Bourcier) Kinnonen of 47 years. Soul mates for over 51 years, they were partners in love and each other’s best friend. Together they raised their three children of whom he always burst with pride when he spoke of them. Laura (Jean-Marc Pitre), Dale, (Lisa Trites) and Craig (Tracey Dawson- Kinnonen) He also dearly loved his 7 grandchildren, Samuel, Nicolas, Ethan, Sila, Emma, Kenneth and Kingsley. Family meant everything to him. Ron spent his 40-year career as an automotive mechanic where he was known for his ability to diagnose and solve even the most difficult problems. If he couldn’t fix it, nobody could. He loved to tinker and come up with ingenious ways to tackle issues. We will forever be trying to figure out his inventions around the house. He was always full of simple and logical advice. He loved to make people laugh, always having a joke to tell. He loved boating, camping and fishing. One of his favourite places to get away was Mozhabong Lake. His most important Finnish traditions were having a sauna, enjoying homemade pulla and coffee and living a life of sisu. Predeceased by his parents Vern (Vaino) Kinnunen, Signe (nee Hongell) and stepmother Ida (nee Jutila) Kinnunen. He was the youngest of 12 siblings and he was loved by all of them. Loving brother of Elsie (Eldon Ritchie) of Sudbury and Eva, Walter, Arvo, Viola, Mary, Billy, Sylvia, Nancy, Norma and Kenneth (all predeceased). Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, his Bourcier family in-laws, many friends and long lake neighbours. Special thanks to the staff at HSN 9th floor nephrology unit where he received dialysis treatments for the last 3 years and to the nursing staff on the 5th floor cardiac unit who provided kindness and dignity in his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Health Sciences North HSN Dialysis Unit or the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated. A celebration of life will be enjoyed by many when held at a later date. Cremation.
