Obituary for Taimi Tellervo Kallinen (Jarvinen)

In loving memory of Taimi Tellervo Kallinen (nee Jarvinen) who passed away on April 24th, 2021 at Finlandia Nursing Home , Sudbury, at the age of 96. Loving wife of Karl Kallinen (predeceased Jan 10, 2021) her husband of 76 years. Dear mother of Leslee Deminion (husband T. Michael), cherished grandmother (Mummu) of Lila Jermey (husband Michael), and great-grandmother of Sydney. Dear aunt of nieces and nephews in Canada. Also survived by cousins in Finland. Predeceased by her parents Anni Tuomi and Valpas Jarvinen, her stepfather Matti Tuomi, her son Alvin, her brother Taito Jarvinen, sister-in-law Viola Luukko and Viola’s husband, Toivo.
Taimi was born on April 28, 1924 in Saarijarvi, Finland. Her family immigrated to Canada when she was three. They lived in Creighton and in the Donovan in Sudbury before moving to their farm near Chelmsford. After she and Karl married they lived in Azilda until 2012, except for four years in Falconbridge (1959-1963). In 2012 she moved to Finlandia Village in Sudbury after a hip fracture.
Taimi taught herself to paint landscapes in oils from books from the library when in her 50’s. She sewed clothes, knitted and crocheted. Countless hours were spent processing and freezing produce from their garden, wild blueberries they picked, and fish they caught. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, going to a restaurant, coffee-time with friends, reading mysteries, playing the mandolin, going for sauna and spending time at their camp on Onaping Lake. A special thank you to the staff at Finlandia Village, Dr. Presenza and Dr. Bakker for their good care. Cremation has taken place, and private burial will be held at a later date. If desired, donations to Finlandia SISU Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Services.
