Obituary for John Joseph "Sean" Moynihan (Moynihan)

The family of John “Sean” Moynihan is saddened to announce his passing on Monday, April 12th, 2021 at Health Sciences North at the age of 85. John was the dedicated and loving husband of 65 years to Elizabeth “Betty” Moynihan, who died in March. Caring father of Kathleen of Val Caron and Michael (Lucie) of Wawa. Adoring granddad to Vanessa (Jordan) and Austin and “Papa Sean” to Avery and Brayden. Predeceased by his parents Timothy and Eileen (nee Burford) and brothers Timothy (Annie) and Michael. Brother-in law of Jenny. Loving uncle to Jake, Rachel and Sonia. John will be missed dearly by his family in England and Ireland as well as the many Moynihan’s he reached throughout his research of the Moynihan Family Tree.
Sean immigrated to Canada in 1955 and was a proud member of the IBEW Local 1867 for 65 years. In his youth, he was an all-round athlete and played football, tug-of-war and boxing for Ford Sports. He won the Ontario Cup in 1969 with the Polish White Eagles of Sudbury and played Semi-pro for Sudbury Italia. He was inducted into Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame in 2014. He spent most of his time at his cottage on Manitoulin Island, where he enjoyed fishing, gardening and being in the company of his close friends.
The family would like to thank his many friends, including Barry and Frank for their support over the last few months. They would also like to thank the staff at Health Sciences North, as well as his family doctor for their care. At his request, there will be no service and a celebration of life at their beloved cottage will be held this summer. Sean and Betty’s ashes will be laid to rest in Ireland.
Until we meet again Sean John Jack.
