JOKI, Lennard Toivo Matti
December 20, 1947-April 5, 2021
It is with profound sorrow we announce the passing of Lennard Joki at age 73, on Monday, April 5, 2021 at Finlandia Nursing Home. He entered Finlandia in April 2018 after a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s in 2015 and a stroke in 2017. Lennard is predeceased by his parents Uno(1967) and Linda (Kantola) (1973). He was the loved and loving brother of Marlene Vorkapic (Nikola) (2014) of Hamilton. Surviving are cousins in Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States. Lennard was born and lived in Sudbury until the age of 23 when he moved to Toronto to attend Ryerson. In Sudbury, he was employed as the Assistant Manager at the Empire Theatre. He was also the volunteer Box Office Manager for the Sudbury Theatre Guild in the late 1960’s until 1971. Lennard graduated from the Business Program at Ryerson in 1974. The major part of Lennard’s employment career was served with the Apprenticeship Branch of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. He retired from the Ministry in 2003. He was a lifetime member of the North Toronto Horticultural Society. Lennard’s passions were many: gardening at his home, cooking, baking, hosting dinner parties, music and musical concerts, theatre, travelling and collecting art. Special thanks to the compassionate staff in Haapa Wing, Finlandia, who cared for Lennard so well in meeting his needs. Donations can be made, if desired, to the Finlandia Sisu Foundation by calling (705) 524-3137 or online at A celebration of life will be held at a later date depending on Covid. To Marlene and Family and Friends of Lennard
Condolences and Prayers as you go through this stressful time of losing your brother.
Lenn often spoke of how his sister was so wonderful to him.
We met when he was at the Empire Theatre and I was at the Plaza.
At EXPO67, I walked out of a Pavilion and bumped into Lenn.
He recommended me when City Centre Cinemas were opening which paved the way to my involvement at Capri Theatre in Toronto.
Many times Lenn and I crossed paths and there was never a shortage of jokes and good times.
Lenn will be missed by many but never forgotten. Rest in peace my good friend.

Please accept my condolences on the passing of Lennard Joki, long-time employee of the Apprenticeship Branch. Lenn was a wonderful colleague and friend and we worked in the same Branch of the Ministry for many years. His smile and good humour will be missed very much.
