Obituary for Anne Mirjam Belfry (Perttula)

With great admiration of her courage to leave this world on her own time and terms, we announce the passing of Anne Miriam Belfry (nee Perttula-Marttinen) surrounded with love and family at Health Sciences North on March 25, 2021. Anne was born in South Porcupine on December 21, 1926 and moved to Sudbury as a baby. From the beginning, Mom embodied the Finnish concept of Sisu. Having been raised in the Finnish Community, Annikki began Grade 1 not knowing a word of English, however, she learned quickly and after high school she worked in the McKim Township office. In 1948 she married the wonderful man of her dreams, Al Belfry. They raised 5 children and spent 69 years together in love. For 7 years, Mom bravely and lovingly cared for our Dad following his stroke, and her Sisu was her armour. Anne had plenty of fun during her 94 years, enjoying many bus trips, camping, summers on Manitoulin, bingo, casino, and most of all being in the company of her family and many friends. She was always proud of the fact she learned to drive in her 40s and didn’t quit till she was 91! With strength and determination, Mom continued to live independently in her own home until late February. Anne was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76, a 62-year member of the CWL, a long time volunteer at the General Hospital gift shop and at the Church of Christ the King. Our family extends gratitude to the kind and compassionate staff on 5 South at HSN for all they did to keep Mom comfortable. Beloved wife of Al Belfry (predeceased 2017). Dearest Mom to Allan (Suzanne), Judy Peloso (Mario), Jim (predeceased) (Brigitte), Catharine Mitton (Glen predeceased) (Raymond), and William. Grandma will be sadly missed by Carey Belfry, Kris Belfry, Logan Peloso (Jennifer), Kyle Peloso (Kristin), Tracy Belfry (predeceased), Jamie Collyer (Michael), Jody Evans, Sarah Valtins (Torey), David Belfry, Cassandra Belfry and her 13 beautiful great-grandchildren; Kasta, Avery, Lyric, Soul, Harmony, Holly, Bryer, Tyson, Kayden, Ryleigh, Malia, Kaleb and Aviana. Daughter of Eino Perttula, Saima and Vaino Marttinen, and sister to her infant brother Vaino Jr, and Aila Marttinen (all predeceased). Dear sister-in-law of Sister Marvel Belfry (predeceased), John (Dorothy predeceased), Margaret Belfry, Ed (predeceased) and aunt to many nieces and nephews. If desired, donations to Church of Christ the King Building Fund or Finlandia SISU Foundation would be appreciated.
