Obituary for Robert Cross
ROBERT MELVIN CROSS
February 19, 2021 (78 years)
It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Robert “Bob” Melvin Cross Friday, February 19, 2021 (78 years) at Health Science North with his family by his side. Lovingly remembered as the “Birdman.”
Born in Sudbury on October 2, 1942, Bob became a heavy truck mechanic and owned a successful truck shop for many years. This led him to a passion of building antique cars, in particular a green 1940 Ford Coupe.
His strong work ethic was respected by many and a trait that he instilled in all his children.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing a good round of golf with family and friends and later playing guitar for them around the campfire until the wee hours of the morning. As an avid gardener, he took great pride tending to his massive garden always filled with beautiful flowers, fruits, and vegetables. In the summer months this is where you often found him.
Robert was born to Jane Lilly Cross (Reid) and Edward William Cross (both predeceased). He will be sadly missed by his sister Mavis (Mickey predeceased), brother and sister-in-law Douglas and Peggy Cross (both predeceased).
Bob married Lucille (nee Burton) on August 26, 1978, together they built a beautiful life. He will be greatly missed by his children Tracy, Lynn, Laurie (Jamie), David, Allan (Heather), Ken (Vickey) and Bobby. Loving Papa to grandchildren Kayla (Andre), Thea (Dean), Jori-Lee (Aaron), Kassandra (Alex), Joshua, Katie and Mathew, as well as his great grandchildren Pandora, Paris and Andie. Bob will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Cano, all the dedicated physicians, nurses, and staff at Health Sciences North and the Cancer Centre for their care and compassion.
