It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grand-mother, and great-grand mother Jeannette Lahaie (née Roy) on Monday, February 15th, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Villa at the age of 86.
Beloved wife of Léo Lahaie predeceased. Loving mother of Ronald Roy predeceased, Stella Desmarais of Sudbury, Richard Lahaie of Sudbury, Guy Lahaie (Johanne) of Blainville, Quebec, Yves Lahaie of Sudbury, and Pierre Lahaie of Sudbury. Cherished grandmother of Rodney, Céleste, Mikaël, Brigitte, Ashley, Cassandra and Sophie and great-grandmother of Danika and Quincy. Predeceased by her parents Napoléon and Léda (née Savard) Roy. Dear sister of Denis (Aurelienne predeceased), Lévis (Cathy) and Arlette Melcher (Gerry predeceased) and the late Bella St. Germain (Charles), Edna Gervais (Oscar), Yvon (Shirley) and Juliette Gervais (Damase).
Jeannette was born in Haddo township which is part of Greater Sudbury District and was raised in Noëlville and Warren.
Jeannette had a generous heart and a compassionate and caring soul. She worked many years as a program coordinator and developer for those with special needs. Due to her son’s disabilities, Jeanette was a real activist for the rights for the handicapped, so much, she was instrumental in bringing to light the injustice carried out against those with special needs by the Ontario government institutions.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Dominique’s Church, 1241 Diane Street, Sudbury on Saturday, February 20th, 2021 at 11am. Cremation with internment of ashes at Civic Cemetery.
