Obituary for Jim Nassas

Jim Nassas • September 30, 1933 - February 10, 2021

Jim Nassas began life in Ammohori, a village in northern Greece, but lived 65 of his 87 years in Canada. Still, he was forever passionate about his homeland, Macedonia. Jim was an active man who enjoyed being outdoors. He was a regular sight riding his bicycle around town and spent many afternoons at Minnow Lake or Ramsey Lake. In winter months he tended his beloved wood stove and in all seasons pursued bargains as befit his thrifty nature. Gregarious, with an engaging smile, he loved to make people laugh. When his time came he left this world with daughter Kathy and son George by his side. He was predeceased by his wife Tina and daughter Sophie. Also his sister Patricia Peroff and brother Lame Nassas. He is fondly remembered by nephew Peter Peroff; nieces Freida Nassas, Pauline Bona, and Nicky Nassas; close family Peter, Lefka, John, Litsa, and Dan Paraskevopoulos; and a large extended family in Greece, Germany, and Australia.

Doing a good job was important to Jim which won him much respect from colleagues and he found reward in return. He had many fond memories of his years as a railway man in Labrador. Here in Sudbury, people were forever recognizing him as that gentleman who worked at Varsity Billiards and later Christ The King Church. He was devoted to his family and did not hesitate to help others in need. To honour this we kindly request donations to Blue Door Café (Soup Kitchen) as Jim''s memory will continue to help others.
