Obituary for James MacDonald

James Ramsay "Jim" MACDONALD

In Loving Memory of James Ramsay "Jim" MacDonald, 96 years, on Thursday December 10, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Villa. Jim passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family. Beloved husband of 71 years to Elinor MacDonald (predeceased). Loving father of Vicki (Dan), Peggy (Steven), Kim (Glen), Kevin (Kathy), and Lindsay (Mark). Cherished Poppa of Tanner (Cynthia), Stephanie, Griffin, Scott (Kendra), Ian (Kristin), Ben, Sam (Stephanie), Carter (Amanda), Ellie, Machlan, Callum and Tait. Great Grandfather to Sloane, Chloe, Iris, Sullivan, Ferguson, Axel, Vincent and Nova. Predeceased by his parents, Donald MacDonald and Victoria Ward, and siblings John, Mary, Beatrice, Jean, Dorothy, Gordon, Lloyd, Donna, and Phyllis. Jim was born in Chapleau, Ontario, spent his younger years in the town of Nicholson, and lived most of his life in Sudbury.

Jim was a proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Airforce, having trained as a Lancaster pilot in WWII. He had an abiding interest and extensive knowledge of the history of that time. He spent his career as a staff member of the International Nickel Company. Jim was kind, loving, generous and committed to his family. He loved quiet times with Elinor, summer days at the beach at Lake Ramsay, backyard BBQs, hockey games, and good books. He found pleasure in his home and his garden. "Poppa" continually extended himself to all his children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews and his passing leaves a huge gap in all of our lives.

The family is immensely grateful to St. Joseph’s Villa, and particularly to the kind and caring team of Hillcrest Neighbourhood who attended thoughtfully and expertly to both Mom and Dad over the last 7 years. They are truly remarkable people.

Cremation is at Park Lawn Crematorium, and interment will be in the Veterans' Wall, Civic Memorial Cemetery with a family celebration of life at a later date. Donations to the St. Joseph’s Foundation of Sudbury, The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
