Obituary

In loving memory of Hildegard Josefine (Hilde) Adler on December 11th, 2020 at the age of 91 years. Devoted wife of Gottfried Gerhard (Gerry) Adler for 70 years. Loving mother to Helga and Walter (Linda). Linda was like another daughter to her. Cherished Oma to Andrea (James), Stephen (predeceased) (Ellie) , James (Lisa), and Kevin (Shanna). Her great grandchildren gave her great comfort and joy in her latter years. She loved family get-togethers where she could watch Devin (Sophie), Ben, Hannah, Hunter, Ella, and Ryan interact. She also got to know her great great granddaughter, Alexie, whose impish face and abundant energy gave her more joy.
Hilde was born in Graz, Austria on March 11th, 1929. She immigrated to Canada in 1955 with her two young children, to join her husband in Sudbury. She was a hard worker, establishing a new home in a new country. She loved cooking (schnitzel specialist) and baking (especially Christmas cookies), and family and friends always reaped the rewards. Hilde was a chef at the Continental Café for many years, and said that if she were younger, she would have opened her own restaurant. She was the president of the Carol Richard Park Association in its infancy, helping the community to flourish. She was a member of St. Kevin’s CWL, and many remember the laughter she provided at their card games. She was always ready to help others and devoted her life to doing what she could.
Hilde’s legacy is one of love. Special thanks to the staff at Finlandia especially those in the Kuusi home area for their excellent care, respect, and kindness shown.
A celebration of life will be held in the Lougheed Funeral Home, Hanmer/Capreol Chapel, 4605 Michelle Drive, Hanmer, on Friday, December 18th, 2020 at 2pm. Friends may gather after 1pm Friday. Please remember to wear your mask per COVID protocol. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Elgin Street Mission or the Finlandia SISU Foundation would be appreciated.

So sorry to hear about "Oma's" passing. I have many lovely memories of her, and of course, her cooking. My thoughts are with you, Andrea and Mrs. Leblanc.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs. Adler. Mrs. Adler held a special place to us growing up on Suzanne Street. A wonderful friend to our dear Mom, a watchful neighbour (especially in the summertime when our trailer was open in the backyard), and one of the wonderful ladies at the Continental Cafe that we always felt lucky to work with during the daytime. Her kindness and love was always felt by us Weber children. May you Rest In Peace, Mrs Adler.

Helga and Walter, so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. Having lived next door for 36 years we loved her cheery “Hi neighbour” when we were outside. She always had a devilish glint and sparkle in her eyes.
