Obituary

In loving memory of Antero Vihtori Tuhkasaari, 79 years, who peacefully passed away, Wednesday, December 2nd, 2020 at York Extendicare after a short illness. Loving father of Sari (Kevin). Cherished Pappa of Tim and Kolby. Predeceased by his wife Pirkko, and parents Vaino and Saima. Survived by sister Helena (Manu predeceased), brother Viljo (Edith) and numerous nieces and nephews. Antero was born in Kortesjarvi Finland on May 29, 1941. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 and went to work in mines and construction. Antero settled in Sudbury, married Pirkko in 1971 and started a family. Antero loved spending his spare time at his camp at Red Deer Lake year-round. Gardening, hunting and fishing were his favourite pastimes. In recent years Antero looked forward to his morning coffee meetings with friends at Leinala’s Bakery. Antero was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church (St. Matthew’s). He enjoyed his bowling group which gathered weekly during the winter months and weekly devotions at Hannah Lake during the summer. Antero (Andy) will be greatly missed. Interment in the Civic Cemetery. Due to Covid a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In memory of Antero, donations can be made to New Hope Lutheran Church (nhlc.ca). (Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home)

I was sorry to hear of the passing of Antero. He will be greatly missed. He was a great carpenter and handy man. I want to send my deepest sympathy and condolences to Sari (Kevin) and families. We will miss you at Tim's. If there were more people like Andy, it would be a better world. May you rest in peace. May God be with you all as you move forward.

My wife and I were saddened to hear of Andy's passing and offer our sincere sympathies to Sari, Viljo and the rest of the family. We became good friends with Andy having purchased the property next door over 20 years ago. He was a great neighbour and was always willing to advise on carpentry projects. He was very informative as to the history of the lake and how he and his relatives had been on the lake over 50 years. He will
be missed.

Very sorry to hear about your father, Sari. I have fond memories of countless winter weekends at Red Deer. You Mark & I would drive our father’s snow mobiles all around, get stuck and have to interrupt their ice fishing to come help us. Great times. Your dad was fun to be around. May he Rest In Peace. Thinking about you & your family.

I was very sad to hear of your father's passing, Sari. I have many great memories of him at Red Deer Lake and whenever I was over visiting. I hope that he will rest in peace with your mother in heaven.
