Obituary

Gilbert Depatie
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of a dear father, husband, brother and friend Gilbert Depatie. On Tuesday November 24th, 2020 he passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side. Loving husband and best friend of 57 years to Angele Depatie (née Martin). Cherished father to Raymond (Nancy) and Robert (Patty) Depatie. Devoted Pépère to Ricky (Morgan), Samantha and Stephanie (Marc). He will be profoundly missed by great grandchildren Draven, Phoenix, Einin and Reese. Born on December 29th, 1944 to the late Olida and Prescille Depatie (née Lafleur), Gil was one of eleven siblings. Marguerite (Gerry predeceased) (Richard), Georgette (JP), Albert (Ellen), Germaine (Florent), Jacqueline (Roger), Leonette (Vince predeceased), Laurent (Linda), predeceased by Marcel (Anita), Victor (Sue) and Gerald (Michelle), all of whom will miss their caring brother. Gil was a doting brother in-law to Archil (Sue), Maurice (Ellen), Rheal (Pierette), Jacqueline (Dan) and André (predeceased). Gil was also very close with his nieces and nephews, to whom he was more like a father than an uncle. Gil’s greatest joy and passion was his family. We will forever remember the times spent on the French, and the unforgettable memories made with family and friends. Due to current circumstances, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice are greatly appreciated. Arrangement entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home. For donations or messages of condolence, www.lougheed.org

For me he was always my second Dad and that started at a very early age. When we were young he was my two friends’ Dad and he wasn’t always happy to see me, but still always welcoming. Learned lots from him about life, both from him and from the shiny example he had set with his sons. We knew we never had to worry about one taking advantage of another, it really wasn’t in our DNA. As we grew older I learnt to appreciate the gem that he really was. As a family they fostered kids that had less than acceptable family lives. Most of which know their lives were given a jump start by their time within Gil and Angèle’s home. Ma and Pa were a great example to any couple, they were proof that opposites attract and that that can work. I learnt to appreciate the pearls of wisdom that he would impart. The best ones were the ones that just slipped into casual conversation that made you reflect later. He had a big part in my upbringing and in forming who I am as an adult. I will miss our chats Pa! Our condolences to the family.

We are so sorry for your loss Angele, Raymond, Robert and extended families. It is very difficult loosing a family member, but you can take comfort in knowing you have a guardian angel watching over you. Keep your memories close to your heart, as those will never fade away. Such a great neighbour that was always welcoming. Good man, great father with a caring, happy soul. He will be missed.
