Obituary for Ernest Ross Brooks

Ernest Ross Brooks passed away peacefully on Friday, November 20 at the age of 77.

Ernie was born in Sudbury in 1943 and worked at Falconbridge for 32 years. He met the love of his life, Bonnie, at Murray’s Restaurant in 1967 and jokingly told her he was married with six kids. They married two years later and celebrated 51 years of wedded bliss this past April.

Ernie was many things - thoughtful, kind, smart, stubborn, sarcastic and so much fun. He was a storyteller, a jokester (see introduction to wife, above), a golfer and a fantastic baker. He had serious MacGyver fix-it skills and was possibly the world’s pickiest eater. But most importantly, he was a family man - a wonderful dad and papa, and a fiercely devoted husband/best friend/partner in crime.

Ernie is lovingly remembered and will be forever missed by his wife Bonnie, son Scott (Kelly), daughter Kelly (Greg) and grandchildren Macgregor and Sydney, as well as his brother James (Geraldine), sister Nancy (John), sisters-in-law Ann (Jim), Lynn, Judie (Scott), nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

We are sad we can’t have many more years with Ernie, but we will be forever grateful for every moment we shared with him - every story, laugh, hug, adventure, and reminder to keep an emergency kit in the car. He made our lives better in so many ways.

Special thanks to everyone who took such good care of Ernie: Dr. Shivakumar, Dr. Willoughby and the Vascular team, the amazing staff on 6 South, 7 North and St. Joseph’s Continuing Care, and all the other physicians and nurses who saw him. Your care and compassion meant so much to him, and to us. Donations in Ernie’s memory can be made to the Health Sciences North Foundation.
