Obituary

Beloved wife and best friend of the late Michael Yawney, our cherished Mother and Baba has passed away at the wonderful age of 97 surrounded by love, prayer and song. Memories of her life lessons – her cooking, gardening, her work ethic and her deep faith - will live on in her 15 children, 30 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Over the years, Mom’s door was always open with a warm bowl of borscht and rye bread in traditional Ukrainian hospitality. We were blessed to have had her with us for so long and she will always live on in our hearts.

Fondly remembered as the Queen Mum of Steve (Theresa), Marie (Richard Dobson), Helen (George 2016), Michael Jr. (Roma), Sam (Karen), Nolina, Kathy (Frank Scott), Margaret, Sharon (Basil Somers), Polly (Brian Kameka), Rachel (Joe Morris), Ruta (Robert Semeniuk), Tim (Mary Colleen); predeceased by her sons David (Pat) and John (Faye).

Cherished grandmother (Baba) of Lisa, Peter, Debbie, George Jr., Shelley, Jowan, Joan, Patrick, Charles, Allison, Tanya, Sarah, Joseph, Thomas, Meagan, Nicholas, John Jr., James, Matthew, David, Raya, Jessica, Dana, Ben, Shawna, Micaela, Talia, Jenna, Samantha; predeceased by her beautiful granddaughter Zanna.

Blessed great grandmother to Brady, Braden, Liam, Gracen, Hayden, Taylor, Jacob, Zachary, Hana, Emily, Camryn, Lars, Isaiah, Ethan, Jagger, Tobias, Jacob, Asher, Leena, Isabel, Stevie, Caden, Rivan, Clara, Ava, Everly, Melanie, Graffin, Silas, Gabriella, Forrest, Owen and Klara.

Loving daughter of Nick and Mary (nee Pankewich) Puhach both predeceased. Dear sister of Kay and George and the late Mike, Mary, Ann, Henry, Emil, Al, Nick and Nettie. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ukrainian Seniors Centre or St Mary’s Ukrainian Church are welcomed.

Resting at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury where friends may gather from 6-8pm Thursday. Panakhyda will be held at 7pm. In Honour of my Wonderful and Blessed Mother-in-law

My Beloved Mother-in-law was an exceptional person who raised an exceptional family who have always been kind caring and loving to my family. When I married Sharon Yawney I instantly gained 6 exceptional brother-in-laws and 8 exceptional and beautiful sister-in-laws not to mention the extended family and many nieces, nephews, grand children and great grandchildren. Mom and Dad created and leave behind a Village Legacy that is true to the saying “it takes a village to raise a child” What an amazing Village to be a part of!

Mom and Dad were always there supporting Sharon and I in our early years of marriage, support in prayer and feeding us– Mom always invited us over on Fridays for fish, perogies, and some of Mom’s present award winning Borscht (I always knew there was something special about that soup even back then), we always appreciated and looked forward to this treat.
Mom was always so dear – I will always remember the time my Mother died suddenly and Mom Yawney gave me an endearing hug and whispered, “I will help and be your mother”. Mom was truly the Queen Mother of our village and beyond in my eyes. Her always welcoming and inviting love and support for all, her strength, courage, commitment, faith in God, and dedication were a role model of inspiration for all who knew her. Mom was not perfect but she was always willing to forgive and be forgiven and would encourage us, consistently role modeling her Catholic Faith in God through attending church, prayer, song and saying the rosary.

Matthew my son was very Blessed to have known Baba; in his words, “I am so thankful and grateful for such a wonderful Baba!”

My life and family has been Blessed knowing Mom. I have been honoured both to have Mom as my Mother-in-law and also as a sister and friend in Christ. I will miss her but until we meet again we will always cherish our memories with Mom (Baba) our Queen Mother.

Love you Mom,

Basil
