Obituary for John C. Mayhew

John Mayhew (Clarence Clifford John Mayhew) of Sudbury, Ontario passed away, Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Pioneer Manor. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday November 28, 2020 at New Sudbury Pentecostal Church. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the physical service is for family members only, but the service will be live streamed online for general participation. With viewing information to follow. Rev. Dr, David Courey will be officiating. John was born on May 21, 1938 in Shawville, Quebec to Charles Mayhew and Addie Mayhew (Lemay). John was one of fourteen children. He is predeceased by siblings Donald, Michael, Claude, Arthur, Muriel, Dora, Maire and is survived by Gerald, James, Leona, Effie and Shirley. On August 31, 1963 John married his wife of 57 years, Erika Sophie Lydia (Spadzinski), and they had two children, Gregory, wife Peggy, children, Carley, husband Benjamin, great grandson Wren, Hudson, Lindsay and Rhonda, husband David (Fortune) children, Michaella, husband Jeremy, Marissa, Erin, Jacob. John was employed by INCO for 35 years, 25 of those years were spent operating the hoist at Frood-Stobie #3 shaft. Upon retiring from Inco John went back to his roots and operated a farm in Markstay, Ontario. He spent twenty years on the farm in his retirement. John loved working the land and with livestock, having a particular interest in Highland cattle and llamas. John was instrumental in the building of three area churches and volunteered in the community running a “llama therapy” program in area schools and retirement homes. John also enjoyed spending time with family at the cottage on Lake Kagawong, Manitoulin Island. John loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting, cutting wood and working the land on his John Deere tractor. John was a jokester and loved to tease and play with his grandchildren on the farm.
John finally succumbed to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), an auto immune disease. He passed away peacefully with his wife Erika at his side. Arrangements entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Services.
