Obituary for Werner Robert Scherzinger

It is with eternal and infinite love that the family of Werner Robert Heinrich Scherzinger announces his passing on the night of Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 61 years of age.

Born to German immigrants Helmuth and Klara Scherzinger (predeceased), Werner grew up in a large and loving family bountiful with lovers of art, science, music and philosophy. Werner’s upbringing instilled in him a strong love of life and family, and a compassion for others which followed him all his days. Werner gave this passion freely to all who asked, which guided him towards a wealth of beautiful experiences with the love of his life Peggy (nee Baleshta) and their three children.

Werner followed his love of technology, innovation and learning through a diverse and bountiful career path. Werner excelled in various technical careers, including Nuclear Operator for Ontario Hydro, Electronics Technologist at Northeast Cancer Centre, technical support for his own business Schersystems as well as for two small businesses.

Werner’s diverse life experiences and career background, coupled with his inherent love of helping others, led to enriching careers as a high-school teacher at St. Charles College and finally as a college professor at Cambrian College in Sudbury. Werner greatly valued his role as a mentor and was overjoyed to see each student succeed at their personal and career goals.

Through his life, Werner held institutions which foster local and cultural community in great regard. Werner strove to give back to his community through volunteer service as a board member of twenty years for Casa Bella senior citizen apartments, and in the music, baptismal and children’s liturgy ministries at Our Lady of Hope church, among other volunteer activities. Werner was a passionate lover of music, from playing in the Espanola high school band with his brothers and sisters to working on guitars and music gear with his youngest son.

Werner will be forever held in the hearts of Peggy, his wife of 35 years, and his children Michael, Theresa and Mark Scherzinger.

Werner loves dearly and is loved by his six siblings:Irene Kritikopoulos ( George) , Margaret Swinnerton, Helmuth (Linda), Peter (Sue), Barbara Vespini (Frank), and Clara (predeceased) Boisclair (Morris). Werner has also been profoundly impacted by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who in turn have been influenced by his love and compassion.

Werner believed that a life surrounded by love is a gift that is never worth giving up on, and that the points in time where you know you were loved will last forever. He wishes for us to be kind, to impact the lives of others through even the smallest of gestures. Werner encourages us to act as tiny lights in the world, who by shining together can create a large and beautiful glow.

In the short term, a private family service will be held. However, Werner loved to party, and so a celebration of life will be held when circumstances permit.

Werner has expressed his abundant gratitude to the doctors and health care workers at the Cancer Centre and Health Sciences North, who have compassionately guided him through his journey and allowed for great joy and peace in his final days. For those who are able to give, it is requested that all donations be made to the Northern Cancer Foundation or Health Sciences North Foundation.
