Obituary for Helen Cebasek

Helen Cebasek - our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Helen Cebasek passed away peacefully on September 14th, 2020 at Health Sciences North, following a short illness. She was born in Sudbury in 1934 and resided here for her entire life. She is survived by her four children - Ann Koivu (Brian), John, Michael, and Terry. She was a grandmother to Matthew and great-grandmother to Ira. She was predeceased by her husband Paul Cebasek in 1989. Helen did not always have an easy life, but she persevered and carried herself proudly and honourably. She had a quick and agile mind, notably with numbers; you could not, as they say, “fool her on a dime”. She was adept with knitting needles, fond of games of chance, and became, along with her grandson, a passionate follower of the Toronto Blue Jays. She was a character t be sure, always prepared to tell it like it was. The family would like to express appreciation to the medical staff of Health Sciences North for caring for Helen as she grew more fragile. We will miss our Mom and cherish our memories of her. She was, even in her final days, a Mother to the end. God bless you, Mom.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Finlandia Village SISU Foundation would be appreciated. In accordance with Helen’s wishes, there will be no funeral observances. Cremation with interment in the family plot at the Park Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home, www.lougheed.org.
