Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our hero on Thursday, August 20th, 2020 at the age of 61 years.

The world’s most wonderful man, James Adriaans, left this world in the arms of his loving family. He reunites with his beloved mother, brother, uncle, and Merlin. Cherished father of Rachel (Jordan) and Ryan. Devoted spouse to Colette and cat Dad to Rusty. Beloved son of Frank and Wynn and Nancy predeceased and Tom. Loving big brother to Frank predeceased and Michele (Phil). Adored uncle to Cassandra. Dearly remembered by his former spouse and mother of his children, Gail. He will be greatly missed by the “Dutchie” side of the family, Hendersons, “Bell Guys”, and lifelong friends and hunting and fishing buddies.

James was an extremely hard-working man who worked tirelessly at Bell for almost 40 years. He worked even harder at home, saying that there was always a “Jim Job” to do, but he knew when to crank an Adriaans classic and spin his loved ones around. James was a true outdoorsman, teaching us all how to camp, hunt, boat, and fish and appreciate the beauty of nature. He was the ultimate protector to his family, friends, and animals and lived his life courageously with an enormous strength of spirit. We are grateful that he is now at peace, knowing he has entered the light from the lighthouse after braving the storm.

I am deeply saddened by Jim's passing. He was a kind and gentle soul. I truly enjoyed working with Jim; he could turn the nasty job of repairing a cable cut-off into a picnic. It was a joy to hunt or fish with Jim as he was always super prepared, anticipating every possible scenario. I still have my piece of the Berlin Wall he collected on a trip to Europe. We'd fallen out of touch since I retired from Bell but I have many fond and funny memories. I know he will be sorrowfully missed. Rest in Peace.

My sympathy to Jim's family and friends. Everyone that knew him shares your grief . We met in 1990 and became very close friends, team mates, hunting and fishing partners. We founded the Naughton Knights together which lead to "Garage night" which became a Thursday night neighborhood gathering in his garage . Fixing, breaking, planning outdoor trips were abound on Thursdays along with a few pints. A man with many and every gadget and a use for most of them. Always a great time at the hunt camp watching him dress up with 50 kgs of gear to go for an afternoon hunt. You will be sadly missed Jim.

My sincere condolences to Jim's family. My heart is broken for your loss. Jim was always one of the first to donate to Bell's Backpacks for Kids program and it spoke volumes to how big his heart was. I will picture him always in his orange coveralls and in Winter, his big boots! While he was doing some manhole work in downtown Sudbury near our CO, we crossed paths as I was coming out of a meeting. He was always able to tell when I needed some cheering up, so he showed me what he was doing and taught me about all the cool technology he got to use to check the air systems in the manholes to keep our plant safe. I loved learning from him that day and I hope somehow, somewhere, he knows just how much it meant to me that he included me and gave me a glimpse of the "other side of the house." A seemingly regular day for him turned into a wonderful memory for me and I will treasure it always. You will be missed dearly.

Met Jim in 1988 and worked together on many Health & Safety issues over the years. Great guy, may the fish keep biting where ever you are. My deepest condolences to family and friends.
