Obituary for Claire Gernat (Villeneuve)

Claire Jeanne Gernat (née Villeneuve )
February 22, 1930-June 28, 2020
Claire aka Mom, Nana, and Ma Tante passed away peacefully while in palliative care at Health Sciences North, with family at her side. She was born and raised in Chelmsford, and married her sweetheart Joe on July 21, 1952 at Église de Saint-Joseph. As a self-described homebody, she was known for her excellent baking and household management skills. Claire expressed her creativity, thoughtfulness and generosity by ensuring everyone’s favourite foods were always available at parties and family gatherings both at home and at the camp at Wolseley Bay. A woman of strong Catholic faith, Claire was a long-time parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Chelmsford. She was predeceased by her husband and was the last of her generation having outlived her parents, Eugène and Irène, Brothers Rev. Père Laurent, Edmond, Lucien, Cyrille and Gérard, and Sisters Thérèse, Antonine, Rolande, Rita and Georgette, and respective spouses Lucille, Gilberte, Cécile, Jeanne, Marcel, Lionel, Gérard, Marcel and Stéphane. Her legacy lives on through sons Norman and his wife Gail, Michael and his wife Deb, Ron and his wife Melody, and daughter Linda and her husband Louis and with her grandchildren Jeremy, Daniel, Matthew, Tabitha (Abby), Adam, Kate, Stephanie and Isabelle; and great-grandchildren Brianna, Grace and Colton and through her nieces and nephews and their families. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph’s Church or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Remember Claire as the mother, aunt, grandmother, neighbour and friend that she was.

At Claire’s request there will be no visitation, and cremation has taken place.
A memorial mass will be held Saturday, July 18th 2020 at St. Joseph’s Church, 3594 Errington Ave N, Chelmsford at 11am.
