After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts filled with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. Darlene left this world peacefully in her home surrounded by her family.

Predeceased by her parents Phyllis Gauthier (nee Hotte) and Gerald Gauthier, and her sister Chantel Gauthier. Cherished mother of James McDowell (Trista), Sarah Scott (Sean), Ben McDowell (Trista), and Kimberley McDowell (David). Beloved grandmother to Mackenzie, Madison, Evelyn, Liam, and Ethan. Survived by her sisters Karen and Lynn, and her step-sister Jessica. Special aunt to Crystal, Mikey, and Kasey. Loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Darlene was a lover of the outdoors. She enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and country music. Her laugh was contagious and her heart was pure. She will always be remembered for being a caring, compassionate, thoughtful woman, and for her love of bingo. She will be sadly missed by her loving family, including by her special friend Richard Whissell.

Darlene fought hard until her last breath. She and her family thank her friends and all of the health care workers at Health Sciences North and University Health Network in Toronto who were involved in her care during these times and offered their support.

A service will not be held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date for friends and family. Donations can be made to the NEO Kids Foundation and the Northern Cancer Foundation. For donations and messages of condolence,

I miss you every day big sister. I still can’t believe you’re gone. I will miss you every single day. I hope you are no longer suffering and have found peace. My wish is that you were met with open arms by mom and dad and Chantel

Dear Family. A beautiful life left too soon. But sometimes the suffering & pain are too much to bear & we must let go. Darlene was a true SKEADONIAN since the first time she set foot in here, She fit in perfectl;y and raised her family here, We had many happy times with her and sometimes was really the life IN he party. what a sad time for you , But remember her memory lives on in you and we never forget our own. look for her in many ways and in your children & grandchildren . She will always be there, Hugs hugs STAN & ROSE RICE

I would like to extend my condolences to Darlene's family. Darlene was a student of mine at Immaculate Conception school in Val Caron, ON. I shared the loss of her mother and sister during that sad time. My thoughts and prayers are with the family especially the two other girls, Karen and Lynn whom I taught as well. It was lovely to get to know this family.
