HUNEAULT, Gilles - It is with heavy hearts the family announces his passing on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Health Sciences North. Beloved husband of Kay (Kathleen, nee Moyle) predeceased 2013. Loving father of Gregory (Catherine, nee Dennis), Lynn, and Laurie (David Stefanyshyn). Cherished grandfather of Benoit, Margaret, Kelsey and Ashley, and great-grandfather to twins due in July.Son of Laurent and Genevieve (nee Landriault) (both predeceased). Loving brother to Jean-Marie (Marg), Marguerite (Nino Favero), Helene Boivin (Leo, predeceased), Julienne (Don Gagnon, both predeceased), and Michel (Joyce, both predeceased). Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Gilles’ light shone brightest in the dark corners of human suffering, where he would courageously be a compassionate presence and strength to others in their physical, emotional, or spiritual pain wherever they were. He served his community as a firefighter until his retirement from the City of Greater Sudbury Fire Department. He served his faith community for decades as an usher at Christ the King Church, and he served his neighbourhoods in many ways, including establishing and maintaining a community rink at Princess Anne school yard, and responding to any call for a helping hand.
Gilles was a very creative person, often entertaining large family gatherings with his fiddle and, of course, his accordion tunes. Later, he enjoyed drawing and colouring. His daily Word Search activities until the very end were an expression of his love of vocabulary and language.
His unwavering religious faith was a foundation throughout his life. His belief that he would be reunited with his beloved Kay and family who have gone before him gave him and his family resilience during the challenging health issues he faced with dignity and acceptance during the last few years.
A special thank-you to his wonderful caregivers and staff at Extendicare Falconbridge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to War Amps Canada.

As kids we would always wave at Uncle Gilles when he was sitting out on the porch. He'd usually tell us to wait, saying he'd be right back, and when he came back he had Mr. Freezies for all. Seeing him play some lively tunes on the concertina inspired me to pick up the accordion. Sincere condolences to his family and friends on the passing of such a generous man of integrity & joy.

Greg and family:
Please accept my hearfelt sympathies upon the loss of your father.
Gilles was a long-serving, faithful and committed parishioner of Christ the King. I was particularly touched by the way he dealt with the difficult health challenges of the past few years with much courage and deep faith.
You, your father and the other members of your family have been and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers during this sad time.
God Bless!

Our condolences to Greg, Lynn, Lori and their families. Gilles was one of our family’s most cherished friend. After sharing our lives for 50 years, we will miss his smile; his compassion and generosity. Gilles was everything a husband, father ,grandfather and a firefighter should be. Our loss will leave a place in our hearts that will never be filled until the day we meet again. Good bye my friend. Sincerely, Rita Bechard and family
