Obituary

In Loving Memory of
Peter Woloschyn
92 years
Saturday, May 9th, 2020.

Peter was born in the village of Luka, Ivano Frankivska, Ukraine, on June 21st, 1927 to Maria and Onufry Woloschyn, both predeceased. He was forced to leave his beloved homeland during the Second World War, and after the end of the war, was held in Frankfurt, Germany, in a Displaced Persons Camp. In 1947 he had the opportunity to immigrate to Canada with a 1-year contract to work in the bush. He came to Beardmore, Ontario, where he worked for 10 months, then coming to Sudbury to finish his contract to work for the International Nickel Company, where he worked until 1973 when he was forced to take a disability pension.

He married Helen Zayack in Sudbury in 1957. He was a member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church and the Ukrainian Seniors’ Centre. Peter enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger days. He enjoyed picking mushrooms and picking blueberries. He was an avid coin collector in his younger days. He enjoyed working in and around his home, having his lawn and garden the envy of all. His home was described as a “doll house”. He enjoyed playing cards with his senior friends, going to the casino, and working with the kitchen crew at the church. Together with his wife Helen, they made numerous trips to the Ukraine, and also enjoyed travelling to Las Vegas.

Peter is survived by his wife Helen, his nephew Peter in the Ukraine, along with 2 great nieces and 3 great nieces and nephews in the Ukraine and his goddaughter Kathy Zayack. Predeceased by his sisters Hanna and Docia and goddaughter Lisa Fitzgerald.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church would be appreciated.

Helen, our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time. Chris and I were privileged to have known and volunteer with Peter. I will never forget the first time I met him in the kitchen at the church. He told me straight up what to do and what not to do while working in the kitchen . I appreciated his kind words of advice from that day on. I enjoyed our many conversations and we will never forget the kind gentle man that he was. Helen you were blessed to have him in your life, he was truly one of a kind.
May you rest in peace Peter.
