In Loving Memory
of
Florido “Marco” Marconato
84 years
Passed peacefully Friday, May 8, 2020 at Health Sciences North with loving family at his side.
Beloved husband of Fernanda (Argentin) Marconato predeceased 1998, loving father of Roberto predeceased 1980, Dan (Shelly) and Sue (Alain Carriere), cherished Nonno of Samantha and Makenna. Dear son of Francesco and Luigia (Silvestri) Marconato predeceased, dear brother of Giulia and predeceased by Fulvio, Eufrasia and Flora, sadly missed by nieces and nephews. Florido came to Sudbury from Castelfranco, Treviso, Italy a young brave ambitious man with only one suitcase, $20 to his name and a dream. He was a mechanic by trade and was determined to continue that career in Sudbury. Florido went to Sault Ste. Marie to write his mechanics exam; while not understanding much English, he connected with supports and successfully obtained his license. Florido’s dream was to have his own business and provide a good life for his wife and children. He worked for Empire Motors at first then made his dream come true by operating his own successful business “Marco’s Fina” on Lasalle Blvd until it ran its course. Marco was then offered an opportunity to work for the City of Sudbury as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic and took this position with pride. Suffering from an aortic aneurysm in 1994 and pulling through with a 2 chance to live he retired from the City because of health issues. Marco was a master gardener and handyman, always tinkering in his garage or workshop never shying away from a project. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed having his friends for gatherings at his home. Growing up there were always people in our home enjoying each other’s company, there was always laughter, food and his amazing homemade wine flowing and at times dancing. Florido loved to dance. After the loss of his son Roberto, and years later his beloved wife Fernanda, Florido found himself living alone and became an excellent cook, when family would visit there was always something cooking on the stove and he was always eager to share his creations. His garden became the envy of all who saw it and grew the best radicchio in town. Florido, loved to talk about “the old country” and how he travelled for days on a ship to get to Canada, he loved vehicles and was always willing to help a friend with mechanical issues. He loved to fish especially with his son Dan and spent many happy times at their family camp. He shared a love of WWE wrestling with his daughter Susy. It was not unusual for him to cut a visit short because wrestling was on tv! He was a strong man with huge hands and an even bigger personality, never afraid to voice his opinion he was a take it or leave it kind of man, ask for his advice you were going to get the honest truth! Marco was a proud man and a sharp dresser, even in his later years while living in Westmount Retirement Home, he pressed his own shirts and pants with creases just right so he could ‘dress for dinner’. Marco’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the following people: to Dr. Moe and Monique St. Martin, Lucy, Nat and Brianne, your incredible team has become like family to us over the years. You were always there for Dad no matter what and always went above and beyond. To the staff at Westmount Retirement Home for providing Dad with a safe, family environment and finally, to the Emergency Department at HSN and nurses and staff on the 5th Floor in the South Tower, THANK YOU so much for making his last days comfortable. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the SPCA would be appreciated.
