Obituary for Elisa "Elide" Maria Stradiotto (Castellan)

The emptiness without her beloved husband by her side allowed for our mom’s peaceful passing. She is now reunited in heaven with Luigi Stradiotto, predeceased in 2018. Elisa "Elide" Stradiotto (nee Castellan) 85 years, passed away on Palm Sunday, April 5th, 2020 at Pioneer Manor with family by her side. Loving and devoted mother of Franco, Gina Wickenden (Dave) and Franca Perrin. Cherished and most loved Nonna of Andrew (Pam), Kevin (Katheryn), Craig (Marissa), Alissa, Brianna, Adam (Krista), Daniel and Ian and Bisnonna (Great Grandma) of Brayden, Bryson, Jaxson and William. Predeceased by her parents Federico & Emilia Castellan (nee Simeoni) and siblings Lino, Corrado (Delia), Marcella (Bruno), Tullio, Giullio, Giovanna, Lucia (Sergio), and Marcello. She will be missed by her sister-in-law's Anna, Lucia and Gina, the Stradiotto Family in Italy, many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends in Canada and in Italy.
Elide was born in Castello Di Godego, Italy on May 24th, 1934. She met the love of her life, Luigi and travelled one month on a ship to Australia to marry him on November 26th, 1955. Immigrating to Canada, they settled in the west end of Sudbury in the winter of 1959. She was a faithful lifelong member of Our Lady of Hope Church, a member of the Caruso Club Ladies Auxiliary and the Associazone Veneta.
She was a tremendous cook and nothing brought her more joy then when her home was filled with family around her table. Mom would make up any excuse to bring us together for dinner. For example, she would gather us just to see a tomato she grew that looked like a dog’s face. She was a chemist in the laundry room; no stain was safe, a sister to Mother Nature in the flower and vegetable gardens. She loved sewing, singing, dancing and entertaining friends and family. No matter how tired she was, she always welcomed anyone who showed up at her door with a warm smile and a hot cup of espresso. A true family matriarch, she nourished and cared for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Although mom left us with so many wonderful memories they will never fill the void of her absence

Due to COVID19 and the social gathering restrictions, a private family service only will be held. She will be buried alongside her husband in the Park Lawn Cemetery. Donations to the Alzheimer's Society or the Diabetes Canada would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.

"Ti Amo Sempre Mama" Love Franco, Gina & Franca.
