Obituary for Romano Domenico Cocco

In Loving Memory of Romano Cocco, 86 years, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2020 at Health Sciences North with loving family at his side and hands locked with his beloved wife Maria (nee Fraccaro) of 62 years. Loving father to Loretta (Francesco), Gianna (Antonio), Dennis (Victoria) and Larry (Melanie). Cherished Nonno of Justine, Stefan, Amanda (Aaron), Cory, Kayla, Sarah, Milla, and Ella. Dear son of Angelo Cocco and Giovanna (Stocco), both predeceased. Brother to Gino(predeceased), Marta (predeceased), Bruna (predeceased), Maria, Lina, Carlo, Rosina (predeceased), and Emilio. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Romano was born in Castello di Godego, Treviso, Italy. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 to make a future for his family. He was a proud Canadian.

Romano had a great appetite for life. He retired as a reputable custom home builder (Cocco construction) and was fortunate to enjoy 30 years of retirement. He enjoyed his home on Long Lake and was happiest when family and friends were gathered around him eating his homemade salami and drinking his homemade vino. A passionate gardener, Romano loved sharing the fruits of his labour with his family and friends. His greatest enjoyment was his grandchildren and he had a special bond with each grandchild.

Romano enjoyed travelling around Europe, experiencing Canada from coast-to-coast, and exploring many other cruise destinations. He enjoyed his winter getaways in Acapulco for 42 winters, having just returned. His motto was “When you stop, you die”. He was a member of the Caruso Club where he enjoyed playing cards with his friends “at the office”. Romano was a strong man with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He loved to joke and have fun, bringing joy to everyone he encountered. There will be a big void in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers or donations, the family would ask friends to have a toast in his memory. Due to COVID-19, a Celebration of Life will be held later in the year at his home in Long Lake as per his wishes. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home, www.lougheed.org.
